Moved to a Foreign Country

I recently moved to United States from Pakistan. Living away from your country can be a really interesting and unforgettable experience, but at the same time it has very important effects on one's life.

The major experience, and also a very common one, is the one I have experienced is once you start a regular life away from home, you miss everything. This fact doesn't mean that you are unhappy but that you are aware of being on your own. For instance I miss my family and the attention they all paid to me is a very usual thing to do. Little details we did like sitting on a Sunday morning watching TV alone instead of helping your mom around the house, or having a nice chat with my sisters makes me realize how valuable my family really is. I wake up to an empty house here in the morning, and I come from a house where there are at least 4 people at a time. It's been difficult to adjust but at the same time its only then have started to appreciate everything you had back where you belong.

The second experience I have come across is learning how to accept another type of society and culture into my daily life. Since you are living in a place with different customs and traditions from yours, you have to be able to develop yourself in unknown conditions. There are many different types of experiences I have encountered from adjusting to a new culture in a foreign country. One example of a cultural experience I have faced is religion. A person moving from to a predominately Muslim country might experience a form of culture shock when moving to a foreign country. It took me some time to get used to the canters not calling out prayers over a load speaker that can be heard for miles. However this transition was not that bad, as I have experienced my fellow American's more open to accepting Islam. I am easily allowed from work to go to my Friday prayers.

And after listening, talking and even discussing with my parents, I was not able to not only find out why, but also how to fit in a new environment.…

So we can talk about step one which is the honeymoon at first you fantasize and engage with the people around you and its people. You try their food for example. Then you will go to step two the crisis stage is the difference between your own culture and the new culture problems. For example you don’t eat pork and the family is tell you have to eat it. Then step 3 the recovery stage you gain the skills necessary to function effectively and the new culture you learn the language and the ways of the society. My first interaction with another culture was when I met my close friend, Ying Ching from China, who opened doors to a new part of the world for me. The major difference between us was our religion. Her religion, Buddhism, the predominant religion in China, has teachings based on polytheism. In contrast to my religion, Islam, which is strictly monotheistic. Once I informed her that I go to Jamat Khana (my church) everyday and she was surprised because she only attends her temple once a week. She then told me her family practiced religion on a…

I like to travel; experiencing different cultures and customs is always refreshing. I still remember my Europe trip, I tasted foods that I had never experienced, the Eiffel Tower was vivid, and the Leaning Tower of Pisa was majestic. Traveling to a foreign country always excites me. After moving to several other countries, I felt tired and scared of moving. I strongly protested to my parents about moving to America, yet I had no choice but follow them. At that time, I did not know that moving to America would be the most important turning point of my life. The reason that I moved to different…
