Moving To College
I felt scared about moving to college, university or away from home for the first time. From a small community in the province to a city with a population of less than 2 million, everything changed.
I came to college and had no idea what to expect. When I entered the school I have chosen, it seemed like I was in a new world with people I do not know. I walked around the campus and felt like I was this lost little freshman.
FEU was not my 1st choice actually. I just had no choice. But my “tito” said, “it is not which school that matters, it is in you if you will study hard enough to reach your goals in life.” He was right, so I need to love the school I am destined to study at.
College life is completely different from high school. I

I dreaded the alarm that woke me up at 6:30 in the morning. It was as loud as a screaming toddler that could be heard for miles. I groggily got out of bed and got ready for my first day of school. It was a weird feeling not putting on a uniform like I had been for the past nine years, but I also enjoyed that freedom. The nervousness became more and more intense as I could closer and closer to campus. When we arrived, I got out of the car, and watched my dad drive off to go take my younger sister to school. There was no going back now; I had no other choice than to walk through those doors. I felt like my throat was in my stomach. I noticed some familiar faces, and I walked towards them. While I was approaching my friends, a senior, facing toward me, walked passed. He must have been at least six feet tall, which was incredibly intimidating for me at just over five feet. I was not used to the fact that I’d potentially have classes with these giants. Additionally, the array of new teachers, and having to learn all of their teaching styles and things they did or did not tolerate was hard in…

The transition from high school to college presents us all with many new challenges. The workload may feel overwhelming and the surroundings will be unfamiliar. We will have to take on the responsibility of managing life on our own. But the biggest challenge will be learning to embrace the unfamiliar, all the while searching for that small space we can comfortably inhabit. I don’t think our challenge is learning to live as a little fish in a big pond, but rather finding our small pond within the…

The memory of my first big move is still fresh in my mind. I remember rushing to school, excited to tell my friends the news: I was moving from New Jersey to Phoenix, Arizona! After I brought my friends up to date, I proudly displayed my new disposable camera. Together we took many pictures, some of them meaningful and some comical. There were pictures of myself smiling and giggling with my friends and some of my teacher’s feet. As the moving date was slowly approaching, I began to feel resentment. I started hating the idea of moving to a new unknown place where I would have no friends. As it turned out, making new friends was not as hard as I thought because I was younger and I chose my friends superficially. However, I did have to learn to adapt to a new school and curriculum. I was not…

When I was sixteen, I attended to a pre-college summer program for three weeks. When I arrived, I had a dorm room, a roommate, and seventy-nine strangers to become acquainted with. We had all come for the same general reasons – we wanted to learn more, experience more, and become at least slightly prepared for what college might be like. We attended classes and learned about new topics, but…

College is meant to be the best few years of a person's life, and I have to say I agree. When it comes to college there are many ways a person can go about their experiences, they could join a sports team, fulfill the college dream of partying every weekend, or they could be like me, a person who has spent most of their time so far stressing over classes and studying like a madman. No matter how a person goes about their college experience, each option has the potential to be an intimidating one. With the sports team outcome, there comes fear of not being as talented as some teammates, partying comes with the fear of not fitting in with the cool crowd, and lastly, consistent studying and stressing results in the fear of not being good enough and not reaching the ideal GPA. While college can be intimidating, it is a very rewarding experience, I have improved my writing skills, I have received an average grade in this course, and I have learned a few important lessons from my hectic first semester.…

I like to think that after high school you can just go and be free from school for a while. When you’re finished with high school sometimes it can be overwhelming to think of going back to school again. When some students finish high school some are not ready to leave home, some want an income before acquiring debt, and some would like a job that is a trade that requires no college.…

There are a few students who have factors which have influenced their decision on whether or not they would like to go to college. I've interviewed a friend of mine named, Meagan King. Within the following paragraphs are responses from Meagan to my questions.…

College was a topic that was often brought up in my household. My brother was the first person to go to college and graduate in my family. My parents wanted me to go to college and be better than they were. Not going to college was not an option; the rules were your either went to college or you had to leave the house. At the same time that I graduated from high school , my brother also graduated from Lincoln University in Pennsylvania. In order to prepare me for college, my brother and his friends gave me misguided advice which was “College is easy.” Later on I found out that they were wrong. Throughout high school, I had the perfect grades, the perfect teachers, and I barely ever had to study for an exam. When I got to college, that all…
