Summary
This Documentary film was film in an Elementary School named Evergreen Primary School located in Wuhan, China. A teacher from that Elementary School selected three eight-year-old students from her third grade class to participate in an election to run for the class monitor. This three candidates were two boys and one girl who were going to ran for class monitor. Their names were Luo Lei, Cheng Cheng, and Xu Xiaofei. This election was going to be the first democratic election in that specific Elementary School in China, This made it more interesting for the fact that what kind stuff the three candidates were going to do to win the election. That night when the three students were selected they went home and told their parents and asked for an advice because they didn’t really know what to do. The first candidate, Cheng Cheng, parents, whose step-father is an Engineer and his mom a Director in Wuhan China, explained what the Democracy meant to them. They said that Democracy meant that “people are their own masters.” In the other candidate house, Luo Lei who’s both of his parents are police officer’s, they offer their help but Lei told them that he wanted to rely on his own strength. He also said that that he doesn’t want to control others, and they should think for themselves and they should vote for whomever they want. This is good that he thinks that way because people should think what it is better for them. With the third candidate, Xu Xiaofei her mom who is a school’s administrator, told her if she really wanted to win the election she must work on her communication skills because otherwise she wouldn’t make a good impression towards her classmates. At the beginning of the campaign it looked that Cheng Cheng was going to win because everything that he had done had been successful even when each of the candidates had to be face to face and say their opponent’s faults. Towards the end of their campaign Luo Lei’s parents came up with the idea of taking...

Dir. Weijun Chen. Perf. Luo Lei, Cheng Cheng, and Xu Xiaofei. 2007. Documentary Film.
The information that I gleaned from this sources was to find the real reason why Mr. Chen made the choice on making this Documentary Film for democracy and making it in China where the children didn’t really know what was going on. Also I use these sources to find who actually the publisher from this documentary was. This is why use this sources for my report.
Analysis
In this Documentary Film by Weijun Chen he wants to show the schoolchildren from a Primary Elementary School what Democracy works. At the beginning the teacher picks three candidates to run for Class Monitor. This is what we usually see in the U.S. with the democracy only certain candidates are picked to run for the Presidency, Governor, or any type related to the government. In the second day of the campaign in the documentary it shows that the three candidates are willing to show their own talent to their classmates to get their vote on the Election Day. We also see this on the U.S. when the candidates go around places to help people and give speeches of their strengths only. Another thing that the Documentary show us and that refers to what we have in our government is when the three candidates go face-to-face with each other and says their opponents faults to make their classmates think about who they really want as Class Monitor. Also they try to show their classmates why their opponents aren’t capable of being the Class Monitor and make themselves be the best choice they all have. This actually happens in the U.S. Government where the candidates of each campaign go face-to-face with their opponents and argue about why their plans can affect people generally. This is where people really think about who is the best choice for them. In the Documentary Film shows how one of the candidates wants to play dirty by telling one of his friends to say dirty stuff to their opponents to bring them down and make them think about if it was a good choice being selected to run as Class Monitor. In this government when people run for something in the government each party wants to ruin their opponent’s party candidate prestige by sometimes inventing lies about them. At the end, each of the candidates give their final speech and try to convince some of the people that are in their opponents to think about it again and maybe get them to vote for them instead of their opponents campaign. These are some of the comparisons that make the Documentary and our Government similar to each other when there is election going on.
