The character Herman Boone, played by "Denzel Washington", is faced by a difficult challenge that is significantly important to the movie. Coach Boone faces a challenge of acceptance in which, by the end of the movie, he has experienced in two noticeable ways. Boone faces the challenge of being accepted by the community, revealing to us that he wants the community working together rather than judging and persecuting one another. Additionally Boone fights for the acceptance and respect of his team, The Titans, proving to them that they can indeed "make this race thing work". Coach Boone, or as he sees himself as the 'Dicator' is an Important character in the film Remember the titans, as he is the head coach.c Coach Boone takes an important role of leadership
A film technique that relates to the leadership taken by Coach Boone is the dialogue. He has conversations with all participants in his team, but at times he can embarass them. For example, when Petey fails to catch the ball on a full throw, coach Boone yells at him as if he is across the other side of the field, he made shore that Petey would get it into his mind that he needs to pick up his slack. Another example is when Gerry is demanding coach boone to open positions for his team Coach Boone shows that he wants perfection from his team, he says that petranizing the players will undermine them, by yelling at them coach boone is doing them a favour which is what Boone insists on believing.

Pathos was one of the major factors in Coach Boone’s speech. He reached out to his players by talking about the Battle of Gettysburg, a large part of American history. Coach Boone chose Gettysburg because of the history of racism and the Civil War. The atmosphere, full of tension, anxiety, and seriousness made Coach Boone’s speech more of a heart to heart. Based on a true story, the movie Remember the Titans directed by Boaz Yakin and written by Gregory Allen Howard, is the story of an African American football coach named Herman Boone (Denzel Washington) who was appointed as head coach to the football team, over Bill Yoast (Will Patton), of the first integrated high school in Virginia - T.C. Williams High School located in Alexandria.
