Another example of how effective ending each episode with an overall message is, in the last scene in the episode, The Bicycle Thief. The episode begins with a question for all the fathers of the show: What is the key to being a great dad? Most of them gave simple answers such as: be your kid’s buddy or give them the freedom to be whatever they want to be, all except Jay. Jay could not think of an answer to say and even after a few seconds to think about it he still could not come up with anything. Later in the episode, Gloria asked Jay to help Manny fix the fan in his room, so they can get some bonding time. As they worked, Manny talked about how excited he was for his weekend with his father at Disney World and how great his father was, much…

I am your typical pseudo intellectual liberal, but don’t get me wrong pop culture does not turn me off. Mention the Kardashians and I won’t run away in disgust, roll my eyes, or give you the side eye. My google searches range from ‘Is twerking a good exercise?’ to ‘What is Putin’s economic/political interest in Syria?’. I don’t find Woody Allen films boring and I don’t think Sharknado is trash. I will argue with any film snob about why the entire Shrek series is more profound than de Sica’s The Bicycle Thief. As you can see I am all over the place as far as my interests, but the most is race. This topic turns off many people and perhaps you’ll read many personal statements about the struggle of being a minority in America, but my story is not that of roadblocks and discrimination but that of enlightenment. Like many of my fellow white passing Hispanics I have used my light complexion to shield myself from racism and my culture.…

    Bike Thief Research Paper

In WWYD the bike thief I learned that humanity can be very racist and sexist. "Then again she's a girl" shows that the man was sexist. With the white man only two people tried to stop him in an hour. With the black man instantly everyone tried to stop him because of stereotypes. With the white girl not many asked if she was stealing it and even one man tried to help her and got the bike off while his wife called the cops on him and the girl. My prediction was that they would all try and stop to stop the white guy but I was wrong. My prediction for the black guy was that they would stop him right away and I was right. My prediction for the white girl was that they wouldn't even ask or that they would help and I was right. Overall humanity is…

Vittorio De Sica’s the Bicycle Thief is undoubtedly one of the best pieces of Italian Neo Realist Cinema ever made. The movie, based in Post World War II Rome tells the humanistic story of a family man - Antonio (portrayed by Lamberto Maggiorani) and his struggle to survive and make ends meet. Using non-professional actors to portray the lives and emotions of ordinary working class men, suffering from poverty ‘The Bicycle Thief’ satisfies the basic features of Italian Neo Realism.…

    Motorcycle Safety

When it comes to motorcycle safety, helmets get a lot of attention. This is for good reason. The human skull is easily injured by impacts against the road pavement. On the other hand, motorcycle riding glasses don't get the same attention as helmets. Part of this is that many people think of riding glasses as being little more than sunglasses -- an accessory that increases comfort and makes you look cool.…

    The Bicycle Thief

1 When in talks about the most influential movement in film history, many would point out that Italian Neorealism has created a great impact of it’s own in the 1940s. Post‐World War II in Italy birthed a lot of films that supported this national movement. This essay aims to explore the themes and the mis‐en‐scene of the film “The Bicycle Thief” by Vittorio De Sica and how it serves as an unforgettable representative of the neorealism genre. With regards to it’s mise‐en‐scene, “The Bicycle Thief” represented every aspect of the movement, from casting non‐actors for the main roles, filming on‐ location in run‐down cities and having characters that are expressing oppression and injustice. In the film, Lamberto Maggiorani played the role of Antonio Ricci, a father who goes on a search around Rome with his son, Bruno, played by Enzo Staiola, to find his stolen bicycle. The bicycle, being the source of Ricci’s family’s livelihood, is a symbol of Ricci’s dignity as a man and a form of proof that he is capable of feeding his own family. The bicycle also serves as a social commentary on the continuous cycle of poverty and hardship that the poor and working class in the community experienced during post‐World War II. Capturing the essence of a neorealism film, “The Bicycle Thief” managed to put to light an incident in a daily worker’s life. Very much different from the Hollywood style of entertainment, this neoralistic film deals a lot with social issues. In fact, one of the apparent themes in this film is family. The plight that Ricci got himself into brought a lot of emotion and understanding for the audience who will be able to identify with the issue of desperation. Ricci was desperate, as simple as that. He was desperate to find his bicycle in order to keep a job and support his family, in a community where jobs are scarce and every other poor family is in the same position. This brings us deeper into the family theme, where somewhere at the…

At 2:50 pm on November 9th, 2015, we got a call about a theft from Scott Carpenter. This was at 123 Main Street and the theft was of his car, a cherry red 1967 Ford Mustang licence plate JEP-097. Mark and I arrived and Scott invited us in and told us that he was calling around to find his car. Scott came home after his night-shift and the Mustang that he parked along the side (front) of his house was missing. Cathy walked in shortly after we arrived and she was gathering her belongings. She stated she took the Mustang and was no longer together with Scott. Scott and Cathy admitted they have been fighting and Cathy was upset about Scott’s working habits, to the point she felt like she was being ignored by him. Scott did not want Cathy leaving…

The cost of the device was also considered for to prove the acceptability of the device. The device was developed to use a light activated alarm which has detecting diode or the photocell, which turns the device on when the photocell (sensor) detects light. The experiment prove that the Laser Light Activated Alarm produces the competitive sound intensity of 90 -100 dB and the cost of energy consumed of P 2.07 an hour. The commercial cost of P 1,000 was proven to have a lower commercial price than the other two commercial detectors. The ideal laser position was traced to complete the whole operation. Data of different commercial alarms were gathered to be compared to the newly developed Laser light Activated Alarm.
