LETTER OF MOTIVATION

Dear Sir/ Madam:

I am currently in a dual international study program at the XYZ academy. With the upcoming references I want to expose my suitability for the bachelor program Communications & Marketing at the XYZ university.

In June 2008 I absolved my A-level degree at the school in XYZ XYZ city with economics and English as a major. During my A-levels I recognized my affinity to economical topics. I got confronted with global financial markets, international marketing and the diversity of job opportunities in the business administration sector.

During my current studies I got deeper insights into the working field of marketing, communication and advertising. Within my two semesters at the XYZ academy I was already given The Possibility to Obtain real professional work experiences while developing weekly presentations and marketing strategies for external clients. Working in groups gave me the chance to acquire group dynamics and improved my communication skills. To gain a knowledge of languages and resist cross-cultural competence I Participated in French and Chinese courses.

Beside my studies I am always taking the opportunity to face real work experiences in the company of my father. Moreover I am very committed to apply my skills and experiences gained to it. However it got clear to me, that beside brilliant ideas and communication skills, strong entrepreneurial leadership qualities are needed to lead a company to success. I am keenly ambitious to develop the proper skills that help me to analyze, measure and lead corporate strategic decisions.

Information trough the days I was able to discover the XYZ university, it's concept, it's classes, it's building, it's professors and students in it's depth. In my eyes the ideal concept of practical terms, projects, internships, semesters abroad and intensive language training makes the XYZ university a unique asset to my future career.

Yours sincerely XYZ name

LETTER OF MOTIVATION

Dear Sir/ Madam:

Your Bachelor programme “International Business” which begins September 2007 is the one I am interested in and I hereby wish to apply for a place in this programme. I am currently learning for the German Abitur, which I am taking in the end of April. When I visited your homepage it immediately caught my attention since I am so interested in the English language and in studying in small groups. My desire to study in this particular field also reflects my interests in organisation as well as my interests in different countries, people and cultures.

Sometimes in school, I was given the opportunity to work in small groups and I figured out that learning this way was the easiest for me and was also a lot of fun. Collaboration with a diverse group of students will also gives me the opportunity to organise and maybe also to lead a group. In my opinion, this is always a challenge and makes learning more exciting.

Organisation is the part I like most about this kind of learning, because I have done so for my entire life. When I was young, it started by planning each day in every detail; beginning with the right order of my clothing (which was of course lying right beside my bed in the morning) and ending with putting all my toys in the right formation before going to bed. Since then I never stopped being very thorough: before I do something there always has to be a plan! I am already famous for this attitude and my hostfamily back in Oregon is missing those kind of things about me. Sometimes, they are still teasing me with my to-the-plan-sticking, but in a very lovely way of course. Right now, I am fullfilling my study plan of the German Abitur in May, which I worked out in February (I will be on top of things!).

The University of Maastricht is famous for its international character, which makes it even more attractive for me. My parents found it important to show me as much as possible of other countries and cultures. Therefore, we travelled about three times a year to other countries (Greece, Italy, France, Great Britain, and other European countries). My sister is studying in Prague, so she is familiar with the Czech culture and I am able to get to know it as well. My grandparents and my mother lived in Brasil for a very long time and it is interesting for me to learn about their experience. On top of things my parents gave me the opportunity to go to the U.S.A. for one year (which I was of course planning by myself!). Since then I am fascinated by other cultures even more. This experience gave me many opportunities to get an impression of different cultures: my hostfamily is American, the area around Portland is influenced by Mexican people and in school I had many Asian friends. In high school, I also took Spanish, which was always very entertaining, since my teacher (Señor Ricardo) was very into the Mexican culture.

Living in the U.S.A., I learned the English language almost automatically. Nevertheless, I want to improve my proficiency in English since it is still very superficial. Therefore, studying in this language is very attractive for my improvement in English.

After my graduation I am looking forward to be able to understand the complexity of business management. To gain already a first impression about this working environment I will accomplish a work placement (in German: “Praktikum”) for about three months this summer. It is taking place in a very large company, called EDEKA. There, I will be given the opportunity to get to know several areas of business. At first, I will work in the accounting district, and I am sure it will be very exciting and challenging. Certainly, the practical course will prepare me very well for my further education.

Of my college education in Maastricht I expect to learn more about managing people, the international market and people. But I also think the theoretical background is very important. That is why, I am interested in business administration, economics and international law as well. In the future, I am certainly going to work with many different people, consequently subjects like psychology and sociology will be important for my further education as well. I am eager to take those classes, because it will be a completely new study area for me. Unfortunately, I was never able to take classes like this in Germany.

Since I was in first grade, I liked Math the most. It became a constant favourite of mine and I even received a Math-Award during my high school year in America. Back in Germany, I took it as one of my most important classes (in German: “Leistungskurs”). I think that is a very good condition of becoming a manager of a company. Mangaging is all about numbers and analytical skills, so it is important to be familiar with logical relations.

Maastricht seems to be a very nice city. I heard about all the bicycles and the family-like atmosphere. To get a better impression I am looking forward to the Open Day on the 24th of March. I read so many positive aspects about Maastricht and I am sure I will not be disappointed. I grew up in a similar environment, so I will probably fit in very well.

I cannot wait to study “International Business” and to be prepared for an international ever-changing career!

Please find enclosed my Resume. Kindly contact me if you require any further details or documents. I hope to hear from you in the near future.

Given that most universities I saw had Mandarin titles, I was startled when I saw one named after an American city. After some research and talk with local residents, I had realized the outstanding opportunities for global interaction students are receiving on campus. Interested in business myself, I was satisfied to know that Stern also offers these opportunities to students their junior year through the ISP program to gain a first-hand approach of learning international economies and trade. Because of this, Stern oversteps the boundaries of the traditional classroom setting. With Wall Street just a few turns away, students can also secure internships at some of the most world-renowned businesses. I hope to apply the global experience I earn to international marketing, and take the connections I make with me wherever I…
