Motivation For Mscj Research Paper
Motivation for my MSCJ Degree I will always remember walking across the stage at East Tennessee State University, the day I received my Bachelor of Science degree. Along with family and friends, both my parents were in the audience, and were certainly two of the proudest spectators in attendance. Part of my parents’ pride that day came from the fact that I had done something that they had not, I had attended, and now graduated from college. While growing up, I was constantly reminded to do my best with my school work, so that I could go to college. My parents ensured me that by obtaining a college degree I would reduce the amount of stress and hardship in my life. I would be able to get a good job, and not have to struggle financially. My parents told me I could study any subject that I set my mind to, and pursue any …show more content…
I believe that by continuing my education in the MSCJ program at Bethel University, I will be exposed to the latest information on issues within the criminal justice field, and will be better prepared to assume an administrative role within my agency. I intend to use my MSCJ degree as yet another building block in a career that when finished will leave a legacy worthy of the pride my parents felt when I completed my undergraduate studies. Upon retirement from law enforcement, it is my hope that I can use this degree to obtain a position as an instructor of college level criminal justice courses, because I now know just how important the knowledge that my instructors gave me, really was. Knowledge is a gift that keeps on giving, so long as there are those who are willing to pass it on. It is my hope that through the MSCJ program, Bethel University will allow me to spend some time continuing my education here, so that I might be empowered to not only build my own career, but help lay the foundation for careers that will continue long after mine has been

Growing up in a financially disadvantaged family, it became obvious to me at an early age that I needed to go to college if I did not want my children to endure the struggles I did during my childhood. By the time I had reached the 3rd grade I had convinced myself that I would go to college, work for a degree, and die trying if I failed. This may seem extreme, however this mindset has gotten me through several struggles and misfortunes life has thrown my direction.…

I believe as I reflect on the things that we went through in the course and the other things I’ve researched on the internet there were a lot of different populations that the criminal justice system serves. One thing that I have seen is a need to fix the overcrowding in most of the prisons and jails in the United States. There seems to be to many misdemeanor and non-violent crimes in the corrections division of the prison system. We need to focus on more of violent crimes and figure out what to do with the non-violent crimes. By no means should any crime go unpunished but we have to as a group of professionals figure this out and how to deal with it.…

In considering which path to take in graduate school, I immediately had a flashback to when I would travel with my mother and care for my younger siblings while she worked as a counselor to provide assistance with psychosocial support and mental health care to communities, families and individuals in conflict and post-conflict situations. Having the opportunity to observe her and the organization change so many people’s lives while providing them with hope, planted the seed of nurturing and counseling in my heart. Since middle school I have devoted my time to taking on every opportunity that comes my way to volunteer with helping my community better the lives of our youths.…

I have chosen to return to school and pursue a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice for a couple of reasons. The first reason is to increase my personal knowledge of the Criminal Justice system which includes police trends, criminal/civil courts, juvenile justice and other aspects of law enforcement. During my experience as commissioned officer for the past four years I have learned that in order to consider myself as an experienced officer and train others in law enforcement, I have to increase my knowledge base in all areas of Criminal Justice through education. This would give me credibility if I chose to be a Field Training Officer or an instructor at a law enforcement training academy. In order for me to be confident in a supervisory position…

A career in Criminal Justice can be an exciting and very rewarding road to travel. It has a high risk of danger, but the capture of someone who has harmed another human being is a great reward. Both of my parents went to college and both of them also went on to get a post-graduate degree. To them a college education is a necessity to be successful in life. Neither one of them expects me to get into or go to Harvard or Yale, but they do expect me to go to a respectable college. Some teenagers often do not go to college because they must get a job to support their family. Thankfully my parents have always said that I do not need to get a job until after college. The academic and financial support my parents have provided me has cause me not to think of college as a unattainable dream, but almost as another step in my educational , similar to high school or middle school. My parent’s knowledge of the college and the admission process has taught what I need to do in order to put myself in a position to get into a respectful college. The advice and knowledge from my parents has taught me not to just worry about my grades because colleges do not like book worms. Colleges like kids who show they can manage many activities while still maintain a solid 4+ GPA. This attitude has been a positive for me because now I am in many extra-curricular activities including playing Varsity lacrosse, being on the Academic Bowl team, and playing two instruments. Without my parents I could most definitely see myself being a book worm, but thanks to them shaping the attitude that colleges look at more than just grades I have become more outgoing. My parents influence on my view n attitude of college has most definitely been a positive one, and thanks to them, so far, I have been very…

Seattle University’s Jesuit teaching makes this college one of my top choices. My approach to education is eerily similar to Seattle University’s mission statement. I thrive best in an environment that focuses on educating the whole person through academics and spirituality. Since faith is a key component of my life, I want an education that views intellect and faith in a complementary way. Combined with Seattle University’s emphasis on community service, I will also learn how to make an impact both locally and globally. As I grow into adulthood I want to push myself. I also want to find new ways to make a difference in my surrounding community. Through Seattle University’s various service programs, I can nurture that goal.…

When I graduated high school I knew I was going to attend college. It wasn’t a question. It was instilled in me as a child that I would be the only one of my siblings to go to school. My brothers would be forced into the military. It was never a desire of mine to attend college. It was more like the expected next step. Needless to say my passion for school was null and void. I attribute my academic standing to this fact. Maybe if I'd thought about what I wanted to do with my life versus just going with what was expected I would've done a little better.…
