“I know she put pressure on you to do that; she told me the whole story. I know you were just trying to respect her. But you have to believe me when I say you have to listen to me in situations like that. Your mom … she just …” he paused trying to express his thoughts.
“Before your mom got sick, she was so … full of life. So independent. So energetic. It’s really, really hard for her to accept how she is now, because that is not really her. It’s up to us to help her during those times. To help her see that we still see the old her, but at the same time protect her when she needs it. Do you understand?”
Kelly nodded and looked down at her hands. She paused a moment before she spoke. “Dad?”

The relationships displayed between mother and child in the stories, “A New Perspective” and “All the Years of Her Life” are closely similar and vastly different at the same time. The similarity is that the children in both of the stories have feelings of heartbreak and pity towards their mothers at the end of each of the stories, and the relationships they share with their mothers are problematic to say the least.…

I looked down at the picture I held in my hands of a child and her grandmother. The grandmother looked very weak and bony, the deep lines on her face cried exhaustion and pain; while the child was on the complete opposite end of the spectrum: vibrant, alive, and healthy. However, the woman did not cease to express her joy, through her worn out face ran a beautifully kind smile. Her smile told a story, she says, “Become the woman I could never be and become the woman you want, but never forget where you come from. Don’t ever forget your family.” Of course I could never forget my grandmother.…

I want to start off by saying how excited I am to be joining A Place for Mom!! I started my career in health care nine years ago, originally working in nursing. I have worked in a variety of health care settings; Independent/Assisted Living, Memory Care, Long Term Care, Skilled Care, and the Hospital. I always knew I wanted to help people, seniors in particular. As a child I grew up living next door to my grandparents and did everything with them, this is where my love for seniors began. While working in the Hospital I came to the conclusion that nursing was not the way I was going to help people. I began working at an Assisted Living Community in Ames, Iowa as the Sales Director. I quickly learned that, that was how I was going to help people. For three years I got the pleasure of not only helping many families relieve their stress and fears for their loved ones care and safety, but I was also able to ensure their loved ones were able to live out their final years thriving. It was truly the most rewarding job, which brought me to A Place for Mom. At A Place for Mom I won't be limited to helping just the families that…
