He misjudged a man named General Zaroff who seemed kind in the beginning yet turned out to be evil. This phrase means don’t assume a person is one way unless you truly know them deep down in your heart. For example, Zaroff was flattering Rainsford with his looks, manners and the way he treated people. Also, don’t judge someone because you don’t what they have been through or what they may be experiencing. General Zaroff seemed kind to Rainsford but actually turned out to be vicious. Since Rainsford is only looking to find help, he communicates with Ivan at the chateau to tell him that he is not from here and needs and would like a shelter to be in for the night. Even though the quotes state that Zaroff is an insane individual, he reassures Rainsford by telling him “Come,” [Rainsford] “We can talk later. Now you want clothes, food, rest. You shall have them. This a most restful spot” (4). Before bombarding Rainsford about his hunting “passion” Zaroff wanted to take good care of his guest while he was with him at his chateau on the island. Rainsford wants to defend himself, which is why he would execute General Zaroff. Perhaps the most obvious piece of evidence states "Good God, General Zaroff, what you speak of is murder,"(lines 381-382). To spice it up, instead of hunting animals, General Zaroff hunts humans, and chases them. Rainsford thinks that it is a joke. General Zaroff has humans in his basement waiting for the hunting game to begin. It is clear that since he kills humans, he will probably kill Rainsford. In order to stop this 'dangerous' game, Rainsford has to kill General Zaroff. This also supports that he killed General Zaroff because he wanted to save the peoples lives that were about to die for no reason. One of the most damaging pieces of evidence is "The fellow…

Ultimately Zaroff can be characterized as Mysterious and cruel. First off one way Zaroff is mysterious is he already knows who Rainsford is without ever meeting each other before. Conelle page 44, “It is a very great pleasure and honor to welcome Mr. Sanger Rainsford, the celebrated hunter, to my home… I am General Zaroff.” As you can see from this quote Zaroff is excited to meet Rainsford and immediately wants to get to know him better. My second reason is Zaroff acts strange in general around Rainsford. Conelle page 44 “The menacing look in his eyes did not change… a black uniform trimmed with gray astrakhan.” By this quote you can tell Rainsford is feeling uncertain and curious of him. You can also tell by his first reaction he is in some…

True or False: Violent videogames cause children to become more aggressive. Sorry, that was a trick question. Despite much bandying of statistics and loud talking by critics on both sides of the argument, the real answer is that there is no real answer—at least not one that’s been proved scientifically (Zipp). Video games are an appealing target for a public figure in search of a crusade. Movies and music have energetic advocates, but it’s hard to find anyone who will defend games for their artistic value, or even on the grounds of freedom of expression. Usually the strongest argument made for games is that they are harmless fun (Koffler). Nevertheless legislators are drafting self-righteous bills that practically beg to be overturned in court. Democratic Gov. Rod Blagojevich asserts that “ninety-eight percent of the games considered suitable by the industry for teenagers contain graphic violence” (Koffler). Most information about the topic in the media is incorrect. “In fact most of the information in the popular press about the effects of violent videogames is wrong” (Zipp). There is no real evidence that shows violence in video games cause violent behavior in children. There may not ever be a reasonable answer to how the two are related, but the question if violence should be banned from videogames (media) is a serious topic today.…

General Zaroff challenges Rainsford to a battle. A battle to the death. With Zaroff having the upper hand and Rainsford having nothing but his wits. In his short story, “The Most Dangerous Game,” Richard Connell uses personification and foreshadowing to heighten the suspense and conflict of the story.…
