In 1997 a book about an older man slowly dying from ALS was published telling us about his life story. This book was written by Mitch Albom in order to try and raise money for Morrie’s disease and raise awareness. “Tuesdays with Morrie” got it’s name because Mitch and Morrie used to meet on Tuesday’s and discuss life. Morrie is the main character in this book, along with Mitch, the author of the book. Morrie has a disease that affects the nerves in your body, it affects different parts of your body and eventually gets to your lungs. The cause of death from this disease would be suffocating. Morrie decided instead of sitting around being depressed he was going to ignore the fact that he felt so low, he was going…

According to Aristotle, “A tragic hero is a character who is not eminently good and just, yet whose misfortune is brought about not by vice and depravity, but by some error or frailty…” The tragic hero has a weakness that causes them to have an inner struggle. The literature piece goes on to narrate the inner struggle the tragic hero has as well as how they overcome it. The hero goes through a cycle that helps them conquer their struggle and become a better person. Therefore, through an examination of departure, test/trials and transformation of the protagonist in the written work The Stone Angel by Margaret Laurence, Hagar Shipley and Tuesday’s with Morrie by Mitch Albom, Mitch Album, it is visible that both protagonists have gone through the journey…

“Accept what you are able to do and what you are not able to do.” (Albom 18) is the first and one of the most major aphorisms in Tuesdays with Morrie. I believe Morrie is speaking about recognizing your strengths, and not focusing so much on your weaknesses. He means, as he said, to “accept” your limitations. We are all affected by this aphorism everyday. We have limitations, and a lot of times we get so focused on our weaknesses we don’t take advantage of our strengths., and waste time simply trying to improve upon those weaknesses. For example, I’m not athletic. For a while, I focused on that and I let it upset me. I would set myself up to fail focusing on that, and wasting on my time trying to get rid of that lack of skill. Instead, I should have been focusing on non-athletic things that I am good at, and toning those skills, enjoying using them, rather than focusing on what I’m not able to do.…

I have no major successes that impacted my life in a huge way, but in general, I would say a great success would be getting good grades, and test scores. When I first advanced to the high school, I was afraid of it being really challenging and I would be failing all my classes. But, It wasn't that hard, I just had to study, do the homework, and pay attention. Getting good grades was a huge success for me. I have one failure that always keeps occurring no matter how much I try.…

BL: Many people measure success as “wealth” and financial income rather than happiness. My definition of success is the achievement of your goals, dreams and wishes. If you are not happy how could your life be successful? Happiness and being content with life is in my opinion the most important thing in life. Many very "successful" people are miserable and not content with their lives. How are these people successful in life if they are not even happy with it?…

What does success mean to you? Success is the ability to overcome challenges and to get to your desired outcome. Success depends on you, it is dependent only on what your desired outcome is. According to Abraham Lincoln success is expressed as “always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other.” Abraham is expressing the importance of the resolution of success. I agree with Abraham there is nothing better than the resolution to succeed. To be more successful you have to make changes in your life, some of these changes are not so easy and conflict with yourself but in order to succeed there must be a change. This year I have to make some changes to myself in order to succeed.…

Tuesdays with Morrie is a book that taught me many life lessons. All of the life lessons that I learned related to my grandfathers death. As a project I used many aphorisms, a life lesson, and related that aphorism to both Morrie's life and my grandfathers life. My grandfather, just like Morrie, passed away, so I had my grandmother compare the aphorism to my grandfathers life. I picked five of my favorite aphorisms, then compared those aphorisms to Morries life, and finally had my grandmother relate it to my grandfathers life. I videotaped the entire discussion of the comparisons as my project. I chose to do compare the lives of Morrie and my grandfather because I wanted to see how different peoples lives and deaths relate.…
