She gave him food and water and every day she would care for him even though he did not trust her. In the end Karana gains trust from the dog. The quote above states how she wanted revenge but instead, she followed her heart, “THat night I stayed in the house. Before I fell asleep, I thought of a name for him, for I could not call him dog. The name I thought of was Rontu, which means in our langue fox eyes.”
Rachel kept pushing and pushing the sweater to the top of her desk to the point when her teacher Mrs. Price made her put on the sweater. Since Rachel did not speak up for herself, she was “humiliated” and started to cry until one girl, Phyllis Lopez finally said “ I remember, the red sweater is mine.”
Even though Moon Shadow wants to be with his dad, his mother did not let him due to what previously happened to Moon Shadows grandfather. HIs grandfather was lynched, who lived there which they referred to as white demons. This stopped him from traveling to the Land of the Golden Mountain. Also when he would ask about the land he questions were always denied. “ Any time I would bring up the subject of the Golden Mountain , mother suddenly found something going wrong on our farm.”

On the surface, Cold Mountain is the tale of a man trying to find his way home. However, once looked at in more detail, it is seen as a story of a man looking for faith. From the very first step, Inman’s journey is one of faith, a faith that he has lost in the Civil War and is on the road to recovering. We know little of Inman's life prior to his journey, but what we do learn tells us that he was at one point a Christian. In his youth he had been taught, and he believed in, the basics of the Christian faith. Specifically, he believed in heaven, the immortality of soul, and that we are all children of God. Cold Mountain is the story of a man who has undergone a traumatic experience, the likes of which has stolen away from him all optimism and hope for a better tomorrow.…
