The article by Kate Thayer, is an obvious push to persuade the idea of child vaccinations and the role that parents and doctors play in them. It follows the story of a family, who was against the idea of getting vaccinated until they developed the rotavirus and their school system started kicking out unvaccinated children. The mother states that doctors were not doing their role to inform parents and reduce their fears on vaccinations. Many health facilities have even started turning away patients who refuse to vaccinate, which is a divided issue. On one side, people say that turning away patients is okay because they are protecting their other patients. However, doctors have a better chance of convincing parents to vaccinate if they keep the…

The immunization of children is a highly controversial topic, whether it be through news discussions, the radio, social media posts, or a friendly debate. The biggest concerns are the health of the children, after the vaccination is administered, as well as the welfare of those not vaccinated. Recommended immunizations for all age groups are for the protection of the individual and society. In previous classes, we researched the different immunization schedules recommended from birth to age 65 and over.…

The research process involved multiple online sources and an interview with a local community health nurse (RN). I found the CDC (Center for Disease Control) and NIH (National Institute of Health) sites addressed the questions and misbeliefs of the AVM (anti-vaccine movement), and clarified standing misconceptions. However, locally I found that parents only get clarification and information from the nurse giving the vaccine. The nurse offered a CDC handout from behind the counter, but there were no informational pamphlets displayed for public consumption nor were there informational posters on the walls. Since parents should be informed, I concluded that local parents, who do not take the time to research, lack adequate printed information to educate themselves on the topic. I recommended that the Escambia Health Center increase its availability of printed information concerning the advantages of vaccinations.…

    Underserved Populations

I have lived in the southwest my entire life, and I understand the unique medical disparities that and specific to this area of the country. In becoming a physician I hope to provide care to underserved populations similar to the population I was raised in, and be a vocal advocate for increasing access to medicine in rural areas. Specifically at the CU SOM I am interested in CU-UNITE, and the Rural Track programs. These programs fit with my goals of providing care to underserved populations, and I look forward to firsthand experience and being immersed in the community while providing care. Working in Mother/Baby Care I see firsthand the effect that lack of access to health care has on families. For instance, we frequently deal with mothers who have had scant or no prenatal care because they did not have the means of getting to a doctor. These cases often require intensive care, and thusly a costly bill when preventative measures could have been more effective and more manageable in cost. With new legislation will come a need for innovative techniques for providing quick, cost effective care. Allowing students to gain experience and help facilitate the coming changes, is what I hope to bring to these tracks and experiences.…

Vaccines have already vanquished smallpox and have the polio virus on the run, as a result of which if people can get the vaccines in the childhood, it will reduce the probability of getting that disease in the future. It can not only save the money but also reduce the pain when you get the chemical treatment which aimed to destroy the cancer cells. Nowadays, more and more people go to the hospital to get the vaccines in order to keep them away from the disease outbreak. In my country, the government decides to provide free vaccines to the senior citizens and new born babies, which mean that it protect the residents’ health but also reduce their heavy financial burden in the family. Simultaneously, it is an effective way to reduce the great numbers of patients. My neighbor grandma Wang said that it is a really economical way for them after they retire from the university and it is also health welfare for them. However, many doctors who administer the vaccinations lose money on them, according to new data from Athena health, a company that helps doctors with electronic billing and medical records. Therefore, vaccines is a really way prevent people from getting…

Individuals with limited income are unable to afford the cost of vaccines (Wada 2013). By providing on-site (Rebmann 2016), free vaccines or subsidizing vaccinations, there has been strong association with influenza vaccination uptakes in adults that are unwilling to or unable to pay for the cost of vaccines (Yeung 2016). Free vaccine coverage helps address this issue as with other common changeable factors, including having medical professionals continuing to provide advice and recommend influenza vaccination to their older patients (Yeung 2016, Lu 2014). Older patients are more willing to trust their medical providers, so vaccine acceptance is higher in medical settings for those group. Many young adults on the other hand, associate vaccines with adverse concerns after administration and they also perceive their chances of contracting influenza to be low, so their intentions to get vaccinated also remain low (Yeung 2016). Implementing and Providing educational programs that targeting specific groups of individuals have also been effective at providing necessary knowledge for increase vaccine uptake (Rebmann 2016). Education provided to their medical providers and general public would encourage them to seek vaccination (Lu…

Some background information that vaccines are important to get because “influenza kills an average of 24,000 people each year in the United States, and the virus is spread easily in child care settings” (Source 3, Paragraph 4). Having this problem parents are encouraged to vaccinate their child against any sickness. Many preschools and daycare centers are requiring children to get vaccinated. “ Mr. Kennedy said Mr. Trump believes in those anecdotal stories about danger in vaccines” (Source 2, Paragraph 15) Vaccines save lives of people, vaccines do not harm us, otherwise if vaccinations were dangerous or they would not be used. A lot of doctors want us to protect us and our children with vaccines, so we do not spread virus to others. Older people should…

    Disparity In Health Care

Therefore, there are many vaccines children are required to receive, such as hepatitis A, hepatitis B, rotavirus, tetanus, influenza, measles, mumps, and others between ages zero to six (Haider & Bassa, 2014). However, some parents can’t afford transportation to health care facilities, be it a car and gas or even bus fare (Niederhauser & Markowitz, 2007). This is for natives being born and raised in the country, who may have access to federal programs. But recent immigrants to the U.S. are excluded from these programs, and additional barriers of language and culture greatly affect their children’s chance of receiving vaccines (Schneider & Northridge, 1999). That being said, even parents who are fully aware of what’s expected of them may choose not to have their children vaccinated based on beliefs or past experiences. Schedules that conflict with their careers is also an issue, due to the business of people today and limited numbers of appointment times. These same parents might be ignorant of some aspects of the vaccination process, since the schedules for vaccinations are confusing and easily misunderstood, leading many parents to wonder which shots their children have completed and which ones remain to be addressed (Niederhauser & Markowitz,…

I am writing to you today to inform you about a matter I feel very strongly about – the importance of vaccinating children, teens, and adults in order to reduce their risk of contracting certain communicable diseases. We don’t often see it this way, but we are a very privileged country. The USA is fortunate enough to be a country that is rich in medical supplies. The other, not-so-developed countries, however, aren’t so fortunate. Diseases such as polio, hepatitis B, and measles devastate many populations around the world to this day.…

There has been a growing concern that health sector needs a huge attention today, not only from government, citizen, but also from many discipline of health care practices. In the recent year, in the United States which is a superpower country, the delivery of human services is still to be a constant puzzle for policy makers, practitioners, and academics (Mayhew, 2012). Health care delivery (including preventive and supportive care) in this country is challenged by demands of access, safety, quality, and cost (Giberson, et. al., 2011). Even though, many years before, these health care issues has been arised as Wilson D.E. stated that the year 1994 was one of great health care non-reform, although national legislation was enacted, states began to seek ways to deal seriously with the issues, primarily the cost, but also the quality of care (Institute of Medicine 25th Anniversary Symposium, 1996). The same thing is happened in the developing country, even worse. Such as in Indonesia, despite solid economic growth in recent years that has raised millions from poverty, Indonesia faces numerous healthcare challenges, from maternal mortality to vector-borne diseases such as malaria to malnutrition, and degenerative diseases associated with a population that is both ageing and living an increasingly sedentary lifestyle. (The Economist Intelligence Unit, 2010). Besides that, most of population in this country lives in rural areas making the delivery of health care services difficult, a system of community health centres is being developed in response to the needs of the rural community (Jacobalis S., 1989). This means that health care matter is still unresolved.…
