It is possible for someone to become so consumed by revenge that his health suffers. He has been wronged by someone and believe in “tit for a tat”, so they choose getting even instead of forgiveness. This may seem like the easiest and fairest way to live life, but it can completely occupy lives and cloud judgment. Roger Chillingworth chose to take revenge on Dimmesdale (for the affair the minister had with his wife) in Nathaniel Hawthorne’s novel The Scarlet Letter. His need for revenge becomes unnatural and his hatred for Dimmesdale eventually ruins him over the course of several years.…

Revenge seems to be a haunting thing that eats away at someone’s mind. And that person only gets sweet release when and only when they get that revenge on who is haunting them. Revenge seems to make people go mad if not avenged and this only seems to haunt the weak-willed. And the only people who act upon revenge is those not in their right mind. Correlating to the Cask of Amontillado, Dumas uses dramatic irony while the Count of Monte Cristo is situated at the carnival with Albert de Morcerf and Franz D’Epinay. “When Franz came back to his senses, he found Albert drinking a glass of water which his pallor indicated he needed greatly, while the count was already changing into the costume of a court jester.” Similarly, in the Cask of Amontillado Fortunato dresses as a jester while going to the carnival and Montresor takes him to the catacombs and ends up burying him alive. On the other hand, Dumas uses the outfit on the Count of Monte Cristo as an ironic way of saying that the Count is deceiving the other characters in the book through his multiple identities. In the situation in the Cask of Amontillado, the jester outfit symbolizes Fortunato as being a naïve and shortsighted man. Along with the jester outfit, Dumas also shares a common theme with the Cask of Amontillado: revenge and justice. In the short story, a man named Montresor has been insulted by a second man, Fortunato. This results in Montresor feeling the obligation to seek revenge for Fortunato’s actions. In comparison, Edmond Dantes is sent to prison through the actions of Monsieur de Villefort, Fernand Mondego, and Baron Danglars. After Dantes escapes from the Chateau d’If, he seeks revenge for what these men have done to him, in a…

He was allegedly slain by Tybalt, using Romeo as a shield when trying to break them up. Benvolio, of the Montagues, was an eye-witness to the terrible scene and was interviewed for hid full report on what happened. According to him, Tybalt wanted to fight Romeo, but Romeo declined and tried to mediate the situation also making alleged suggestions that they were related. And Mercutio, who had some violent tendencies, decided that he would fight Tybalt himself. But, in Romeo’s attempt to solve the problem, he got in between the two of them and Tybalt ended up stabbing Mercutio. He died on the spot. Then, Romeo’s anger got the best of him and he killed Tybalt for killing his best friend. Then, he just decided to flee the scene so he wouldn’t get caught. However, Lady Montague had her own side of the story she said “Benvolio is a Montague; he is not telling the truth. There must have been twenty guys fighting against Tybalt. Romeo must not live!” Lord Montague had said during his interview, “Romeo and Mercutio were best friends, he was doing what the law would have done to Tybalt, and he killed him.” A few weeks ago, the Prince declared that if he heard of one more fight between the two infamous families, there would be a death sentence.
