Monologue Of Montresor
The missing person was reported by one of the victim’s friend, Mr. Montresor. We are currently specking to his wife Lady Forunato. She says she last got into a fight with her husband about carnival and not drinking in large amounts as usual. She later stated that he left angrily stating that he works for the money this house for every damn thing and if he wants to drink wine he will drink as much as he desires. She later states that she felt a great disdain for her husband at that time.

I was waiting for him to arrive and apologize for my behavior. I was waiting for hours awaiting my husbands return. I did not believe that it would be difficult to find a man wearing the most ludicrous outfit. If I recall correctly he was wearing Tight-fightng …show more content…

Mr. Montresor said that he was at carnival during the time. He stated that he saw Mr.. Forunato at Carnival drunk and heavily intoxicated. He stated that he was saying non coherent rambling about Mr.. Luchesi and how he threatened to murder him and how he was basically petrified with fear of how Luchesi shall kill him. He stated that Mr. Luchesi’s Moto is “Ut quis despicatui tantam mihi angelus ut eicerent eos et ultrices vitae.”. Which can translate to “For one to show such great disdain for me, I shall be the vengeful angel to cast them out of my life.”. His face looking oddly impassive as he recited the Luchesi

    Montresor, the main protagonist, appears as a dangerous and brutal psychopath “I given Fortunato cause to doubt my good will” and “he did not perceive that my smile now was at the thought of his immolation.” (Poe 144).     The story takes place in Italy at a carnival where Montresor and Fortunato meet each other by chance, or so it is seems. The mood at the carnival is lively and exciting. It is then that the two men head towards the catacombs of Montresor's home in search of the wine Amontillado. The catacombs are a place of death where skeletons lie scattered against the damp walls, which are covered in nitre. Montresor dons a "mask of black silk" and a heavy knee length cloak (149). Montresor's clothes seem to indicate his wanting to conceal himself so he can carry out his devious plan. On the other side of the spectrum, Fortunato wears a "tight fitting parti-striped dress, and his head [is] surmounted by the conical cap and bells" (149). His clothing seems to indicate his trusting but foolish nature. The clothing of both men seems to set the mood for the type of characters they are. However, Montresor's true character is indicated through his words. From the beginning of the story his vengeful nature sets the tone for the acts that will follow. One of the first things that Montresor narrates to the reader about Fortunato is that he "…must not only punish but punish with impunity" (149). Montresor is also manipulative, as he tells Fortunato that he will have someone else taste the Amontillado, knowing that by doing this Fortunato will feel compelled to taste the wine himself.
