Mom In The Three Century Woman
I am writing about the indirect characterization of “mom” in The Three Century Woman by Richard Peck. “Mom” is the mother of the speaker. One example of indirect characterization is when she is talking to Aunt Gloria she is really chatty, also the speaker states that she is always on her phone. This shows us that she is talkative. The passage states that she and Aunt Gloria are bickering and in other instances they are arguing. This shows us she is opinionated. The speaker asks to stay in the car but mom refuses. This shows us that she is caring of her grandma making her daughter visit.

    Furthermore, her characteristics align with that of the ‘Mammy’ archetype, and she is portrayed as an elderly, loving motherly figure, providing to her family’s needs.
