Module One: Discussion Questions
1. What are the different parenting styles used by families? Which do you think is better? Why? The different parenting styles used by families are authoritarian style, the permissive style, or the democratic style. I think the authoritarian style is better because as a parent you know what is best for your child and there is no if, ands, or buts about it. I feel like the child should respect the parents’ wishes on the decisions they make. 2. What makes a person ready for parenthood? When should an individual consider entering parenthood? Who should postpone parenthood? Should everyone become a parent eventually? Do you think some people should not become parents altogether. What makes a person ready for parenthood is making sure that they are financially and emotionally ready for the responsibility of a child. An individual should only consider entering parenthood if they are completely sure they can provide for the child to grow into an adult. People that should postpone parenthood are people who are not financially, emotionally ready or people who do not have the time to raise their child properly. Everyone should not become a parent eventually because there are mentally unstable people who will raise up a troubled child. Many serial killers/criminals where raised with parent(s) who didn’t pay them any attention, wasn’t emotionally ready to have a child, and didn’t have them in safe and secure environment. Those parent(s) weren’t ready and shouldn’t have become a parent.
