Modern day poverty-
While the world continues to progress technologically, faster than it’s growth in technology, it’s retrogressing morally and spiritually. While life seems to become easier theoretically, in theory, when you analyse life today, we have such advanced modes of transport, such easy ways of communication, in theory life seems easier than previous times, but practically life has become more challenging than the previous times. Tension, depression and frustration has become the order of the day. Happiness, joy and prosperity is something of the past. The very fears that haunt the minds of every individual that are ever lurking, “i must never be poor” “i must never be diagnosed with cancer” this must never happen, these fears are ever lurking in the heart and in the mind of every man is sufficient depression in the life of every person. The only way to avert financial depression is to convince yourself that Allah is the sustainer. The fluctuation in the currency and fake predictions of the economists, the competitors in the market will not make a difference to you. This is the modern day poverty. In the midst of comfort and luxury there is no joy. Prophet Muhammad saw said in the narration of ibn hibaan “know abu zar, wealth in essence is the contentment of the heart” nothing in this world can give you that contentment that is divine from Allah. The one who has contentment in his heart, then no amount of calamities and tragedies will harm or depress this

    One of the key contributors in the development of the approach was David Weikart. David Weikart was born on August 26, 1931, in Youngstown, Ohio, in 1931. He graduated from Oberlin College with a degree in psychology and a minor in zoology. He received his PhD from the University of Michigan in 1966. In 1957, he began working for the Ypsilanti Public Schools in Ypsilanti, Michigan. David Weikart had the initiative and took the time and the care to build the High/Scope program, a bridge to the future of early childhood education. He believed that if we could engage people in things, they would both learn more and be more enthusiastic. That was the educational philosophy he brought to the Perry Preschool Project. His belief was, education should be engaging, hands-on, and fun. His wanted to help children become enthusiastic about learning, not just proficient with facts and information. David believed education as a process not as an end result. He collaborated with a committee of elementary education leaders to create the High Scope Perry Preschool Study in 1962. The project is now viewed as having played a large role in the development and creation of Head Start and other early childhood education programs. It was designed to address the academic underperformance of student's in the poorest neighborhoods of Ypsilanti, Michigan. He created the internationally known early childhood model known as the High Scope Research Foundation Curriculum, based on Piaget's theories of child psychology and cognitive development. The High Scope Curriculum is based on the concepts of active learning or learning by doing. Active learning means students have direct, hands-on experiences with people, objects, events, and ideas. The High Scope Research Foundation was formed to meet those demands and help strengthen and promote the development of children and early childhood education programs.     The first theory that we will use for Poverty is the Conflict Theory. Conflict theory is defined as, “a theoretical framework in which society is viewed as composed of groups that are competing for scarce resources,”(Copyright © 2009 by James M. Henslin, pg G9). In other words the outside forces prevent individuals from achieving a desired goal or to live a certain way. When it comes to poverty, people would like to be involved in an upward mobility to have a better quality of life for their families or themselves. The elements that prevent individuals to take this upward mobility from occurring are the limits that the upper class place on certain aspects of the chain, such as education, availability, jobs, etc. Lower class individuals are less likely to be able to stay in school, there will be some that have to work jobs in order to support themselves and their families. This limits job opportunities that these individuals will be able to pursue. If this then turns into an issue, then the individuals are less likely to go to college, due to the fact that how are they going to pay for it. This is were Conflict theory plays a part, society sets these groups up for failure. This is to keep the levels apart and to keep those who benefit the most, to keep benefiting. They move from pillar to post in search of food but return in the evening empty handed. They even spread their hands before all but remain devoid of alms. Poverty leads to criminal activities like robbery, thefts, Murder, kidnapping and looting. Now and then one can find headlines in the papers about their criminal activities. We often come across reports about whole family committing suicide by taking poison as they cannot afford a square meal. Even the parents do not hesitate to sell their children for just Rs. 1000. These are such a people who kill their small wards because they cannot provide them the minimum necessities of life. Woman you can be even seen selling their bodies or working as sex-workers. When people are unable to get their livelihood by honest means, they are bound to turn into criminals. Very often people find criminals living only in slums.
