Model Un Summary
() students represented Valley Forge at the Cleveland Council of World Affairs Model United Nations Conference at the Church of the Covenant in Cleveland on April 10-11th.
The CCWA Model UN is a conference in which students from across Northeast Ohio collaborate to solve real-world problems while representing countries from around the globe. Students from Valley Forge represented European nations specifically. Pupils were tasked to discuss and create resolutions that both represented their country’s views while still gaining popular support among other students in their committee. Topics were both passive (such as human rights or peacemaking) and aggressive (international security and violence). Students were scored on ability to write resolutions, knowledge of their country and topics at hand, and speaking clarity and accuracy.
Mr. Van Jura and Mr. Vojta led the Valley Forge team and coached students on not only writing but also speaking skills. Meetings were held frequently on Wednesdays after school, and Mr. Vojta saw a large amount of improvement with the students over the six-month process.
(Vojta quote)
Being competitive at Model UN was an especially taunting task. Many other schools had students who previously had participated in Model UN (some for up to 6 years); while most Forge representatives were first time participants. Model UN is also an elective at some schools, whereas it is an extracurricular here at Valley Forge.
Despite this, juniors Kyle Krempa and Justin Cook won an excellent delegation award for their work at the two-day conference. Kyle and Justin represented Italy in the United Nations Development Program.
“I had a great time at the conference,” stated Cook. “I got a chance to learn a little bit about the world’s struggles and how diplomacy and delegation can help alleviate them.”
Overall, the Model UN was not only a success for Valley Forge but also a way to demonstrate the ability of the young minds who could become the

This course has given me insight to American History that I hadn't known before. One topic I knew some information about, but didn’t really understand was the subject of World War I. Prior to taking this course, I knew the basics of the War; what countries fought in it, when it was fought, and that was about it. I didn’t know the reason why it was fought, or who was the president, or what was going on in America and the rest of the world during it. By taking this course, I learned the information I hadn’t known about the war. For example, I learned that the president during the war was Woodrow Wilson, and the reason the United States got involved was because Germans repeatedly sank U.S. ships. Thanks to this course, I was able to tie the facts that I had previously known about World War I to the new facts that I learned for a better understanding of the…

The same issue arises with problem solving as does finding vital behaviors: “stating the problem as a disguised solution” (Whetten 175). The follow-up stage is crucial in the influential model because adding supplemental forces depends on how they collaborate with each other.…

I have been involved in Model United Nations since high school, and it had been such an educational and engaging experience when I look back as a college undergraduate. In Model United Nations conferences, no matter I was a delegate — writing position papers and draft resolutions, or a dais member — composing background guides, I had been always receiving something that was unable to earn in a traditional classroom setting.…

First of all, the course began with meeting people of the group, learning nationalities and understanding what is real international negotiations are. In different tasks of lesson I tried to know more about the way of doing negotiations with different people. I am convinced that different ways of thinking and cultures make negotiations special. You can know rules of doing negotiations but it is not all. You also need to know a person, sometimes his culture and set of mind. These two weeks showed me that different cultural sets of mind are very difficult to overcome. In some moments I could not do it and I lost because of it. However, this is the point of international negotiations when you are dealing with different people from other countries.…

Before starting ACBE100, my knowledge of global and current affairs was limited - I did not observe what was happening in the world. If you had asked me at the start of the semester to argue the importance of being an informed global citizen, I would not have been able to provide the answer as I did not even consider myself an “informed” global citizen. It was only until being introduced to the principles of academic and professional communication that has allowed me to develop my ability to investigate, research and become an informed global citizen. There have been various tasks that have facilitated my learning and skills which include staying up-to-date with world news, examining and reflecting on the TED Talks, undertaking an investigation…

As a part of this review, she has to discuss which parts of the unit need to be improved for next semester. To do this she wants a report by assignment with a breakdown of the average mark per section so she can see which areas were badly done by the students. She also needs to know whether this is dependent on the course in which the student is enrolled.”…
