Book and Movie Differences: 1. In the book, Jem and Scout do not see Mr. Nathan cement up the old tree. 2. In the movie Jem goes straight back for his pants when in the book, he waits till its night out to go back. 3. In the book when Tom is attempting to escape from the advancing mob when he is shot 17 times by the prison guards. But in the movie he is shot by the police deputies who are escorting him to jail. 4. In the book, Dill is Mrs. Rachel’s nephew. However in the movie, Dill is Mrs. Stephanie Crawfords nephew. 5. In the book, Boo Radley speaks on sentence to Scout. He asks her, “Will you give me a ride home?”. In the movie, he doesn’t say one word. 6. In the book Mr. Underwood covers Atticus from the window with a shotgun as Atticus is confronting the mob attempting to lynch Tom Robinson. 7. In the book, Dill and Scout carry on a romance. Dill promises to marry Scout and they claim to be engaged. However in the movie, this romance is never mentioned. 8. In the book when Jem and Scout are in the Radley yard, Mr. Radley comes out with a shot gun to scare them off. However in the movie, he comes out with the shot gun later when Jem is retrieving his pants. 9. In the book, while Atticus is out of town, Jem and Scout go to black church with her, in the movie this was never shown. 10. In the book, Mrs. Dubose calls Atticus a “Nigger lover” in the presence of Scout and Jem. In the movie, Bob Edwell is the one who calls him this and says it directly to his face. Jem is the one of the two children who hears Atticus be called this. Scout is present but she doesn’t notice cause she is asleep in the front seat of the car. 11. Aunt Alexandera is not in the movie, but is in the book. 12. Miss Maudies house goes up in flames in the book, but not in the movie.
