Mo Willems- twitter @The_Pigeon, website< http://www.mowillems.com/> I enjoy Mo Willems’ illustrations because his characters are adorable and charming. For instance, the drawings of Elephant and Piggie show their enjoyment through their smiles. Also, Mr. Willems makes “The Pigeon” interesting by drawing him in two dimensions and with only one visible eye. Mr. Willems illustrations show expression and movement which helps expand the story line. His use of light colors, defined lines, and playful words make his stories engaging for children. An interesting fact about Mo Willems is that when he was younger he wrote a letter to Charles Schultz (Snoopy creator) telling him (Schultz) Mo wanted his job when he died (http://www.readingrockets.org/books/interviews/willems).

    Willem de Kooning is considered one of the best American painters to ever live. He is compared to one of the Greek Sea Gods, Proteus, and is called "a master of a liquid realm who is gifted with prophecy" (Kertess).De Kooning is a highly intellectual, analytical artist with the courage to reject all assumptions and to take up an issue at its "most difficult formation" (Hess 16). One of de Kooning’s good friends was the poet, art critic, and MOMA Curator, Frank O'Hara. O’Hara considered de Kooning one of the three or four greatest painters of the twentieth century.
