The Blue Sky Software Consulting Firm
Blue Sky has undergone a leadership change. Be sure to address the differences in leadership style and approach today and in the recent past at Blue Sky. The definition of leadership, which is using influence in an organizational setting or situation, producing effects that are meaningful and have a direct impact on accomplishing challenging goals. However there are difference style of leadership, which are trait theory of leadership and situational leadership theory. Mr. Willis leadership style is more toward Group or democratic. The democratic (also called group) leadership style is: The leader shares the problem with the relevant team members as a group. Together they generate and evaluate alternatives and attempt to reach agreement (consensus) on a solution. The leader's role is much like that of chairperson. The leader does not try to influence the group to adopt a solution and is willing to accept and implement any solution that has support of the entire group. The designation is for consistency with the literature regarding leadership. I recommend that Mr. Willis change his leadership style to consultative style, which allow subordinates to have input, but he make the decision. The reason why I suggest this approach is due to Mr. Max Blue having a autocratic style leadership, which made the employees passive and are not use to making important decision. By changing the style of leadership Mr. Willis will more the management team toward being non-passive.
There are many different leadership styles in the different department within Blue Sky, but they are not use to making decisions. By changing the culture in the organization to allow department heads to make decisions, which would allow managers to grow and be more productive in their department.
