MLA Exercise 1. What does the acronym MLA stand for? What are the other two major citation methods called?
MLA stands for Modern Language Association. The other two major citation methods are in text citations and Works cited page. 2. Why is it important to know MLA style? What four purposes does this documentation style serve?
It is important because it helps the reader find the source that was used in the essay if they are looking forward to further information. It is important to use MLA format because it helps formatting the page layout, stylistic technicalities, citing sources, and preparing a manuscript for publication in certain disciplines. 3. What is the difference between in-text citation and works cited citation?
In-text citation shows the formatting requirements of using MLA style for citing sources in the text of your essay, but works cited helps you show the reader where the source came from.

4. How would you cite a quote from page 45 of collapse? Pick a line from that page, and correctly document the quotation as you would in a traditional essay. Image you were quoting this for your paper – and imagine further that you were citing the book for the first time.
On page 44 it was mentioned that during the time of forest fires, the Forest Service’s goal was “Put out every forest fire by 10:00A.M. on the morning after the day it is first reported.” (Forest Services) this action helped fire fighter get their job more serious and were able to put out more forest fires easily. 5. In “yahoo News” there was an article regarding a note from September 11 attack which caused a horrific scene. After discussing the death of a family member in the article, Denise Scott said “I spent 10 years hoping that Randy wasn’t trapped in that building.” (Scott, page 1) and after writing the quote a works cited information should be listed at the end of the essay. 6. You have to italicize or place quotation marks around a title when it is used
