Mixing

Barium titanate is a white powder that can be mix by barium carbonate and titanium dioxide. The mixture of Barium titanate can be pressed to make the piezoelectric discs.

How to mix barium carbonate with titanium dioxide ?

First, we need to use the chemical reaction formula to calculate the molar ratio of the mixture

Baco3 + Tio2 -> Batio3 + Co2

Ba:137.33
Carbon:12 Oxygen:16
Ti:47.9

Total molecular mass barium carbonate = 137.33+12+48=197.33
Total molecular mass titanium dioxide=47.9+32=79.7

The mass fraction of barium carbonate = 197.33/ (197.33+79.7) = 0.7117
The mass fraction of titanium dioxide = 79.7/ (197.33+79.7) = 0.2882

For 60g, we need 0.7117 x 60 g= 42.7 g barium carbonate 0.2882 x 60g = 17.292 g titanium dioxide

Right now, we can weight those powders and put these powders into the pounder bowl and started to mix. We added some ethanol after grounded the powders, and kept pounding. We have pounded the mixture for 20-25 minutes until it looks a little pasty. After that, we transferred the mixture into a beaker and covered it with aluminum foil.

Pressing

We weight 20 grams of premade barium titanate powders and put these powders into

we determine the thickness by putting black layers and metal bar between two cylinders.

We recorded down the diameter-25.41mm for the pre-made barium titanate 26.04 mm for the mixture of barium titanate to calculate the shrinkage percent for the sintering data.

    Ferrite- These types of magnets magnets are made of a sintered composite of powdered iron oxide and barium/strontium carbonate ceramic. Because of the cheap prices of the materials and manufacturing methods, inexpensive magnets like this (or non- magnetized ferromagnetic cores, for use in electronic component such as radio antennas, for example) of different shapes can be easily mass produced. These magnets are non-corroding, but can be brittle and must be treated like other ceramics for it to be efficient.…

    Environmental pollution is one of the main causes of concern nowadays, which has led to harsh environmental regulations being taken. In the case of piezoceramics, they require the search for lead-free materials with comparable properties to those of the well-known lead-based ferroelectric perovskites like Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 (PZT)1. In PZT ceramics with compositions lying near the morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) between the tetragonal and rhombohedral phases, high dielectric and piezoelectric…
