Mitochondrial Myopathy

The disease or illness I chose that affects the muscular system is one of many, called Mitochondrial Myopathy, which is actually a disorder. Mitochondrial Myopathies are types of myopathies associated with mitochondrial disease. On biopsy, the muscle tissue of patients with these diseases usually demonstrate “ragged red” muscle fibers. What this technically means, is that the Mitochondria of the cells that are making muscle tissue, either makes too much ATP, or not enough ATP. This disorder affects the muscular system by not giving enough energy to the muscles, or giving too much energy to the muscles. It affects the visual system, gives poor balance, and many more symptoms in many different organs in the human
