This report is concerning public trust and the crimes committed against them. The firm of Dewey, Cheatham, and Howe is creating a division devoted to public trust crimes, and this paper will be marketing material for the firm's Web site.

The true power of government is the public and those who are sworn to protect it. Those chosen to lead are appointed with the trust of the people. So when that trust is use for their personal gain then damage has occurred. Most government official earns a comfortable sum of money and recognition for upholding the public trust. In today society the notoriety of public servants taking bribes for varies reason has grown out of control.
Bribery and politics seem to go hand in hand especially in states like Virginia, Illinois and Alabama where the Governor took the money. The definition of bribery is “The proposing, receiving, or promoting of money or other items of value for the point of engineering the acts of an bureaucrat in the pardoning of their public or legal duties”
One of the most famous of these would be Former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich went to court and found guilty for corruption. Blagojevich whose charisma had the voters eating out the palm of his hand yet his own self greed destroy the public’s trust. The former governor scheme to solicit bribes to fill President Obama’s vacated Senate seat which cost (Hanna & Wisniewski , 2011) which led to his impeachment and prison time that he is now serving.

This type of crime of misuse of crimes falls in line with Former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman who used his power

    Chapter 5 describes how, within the last century, mounting scholarly evidence has exposed institutional flaws within our judicial and police systems, resulting in the convictions of innocent persons for capital crimes.
