Mission Trip Reflection
Many people go on Mission trips to support other communities that are in need, but some go for the many friendships and experiences that last a lifetime. I went on Mission Trip 2015 to Eagle Butte, South Dakota for both reasons. I had always remembered day three of Mission Trip 2015 because I helped the Cheyenne River community, made friends with people from around the state, and renewed old friendships with people from my own school. It was barely eight o’clock in the morning when we shuffled into the city hall building, eyes still filled with sleep. We were there to discover what our work project was for the day. As Danny and I went to sit on the bench, Nathan cracked jokes and tried to keep everyone awake. We all sat in the tiny, cramped …show more content…
Our friend groups just never got along.” “It sucks that our groups don’t get along better.” “I am just glad we have gotten to become friends. Maybe our groups will follow us, and get along with each other.” “Hopefully! We need to get back outside and work though before Mr. K comes in and yells at us, though.” Danny and I continue back outside, and helped finish priming the building. Once done, we all brought the supplies back to the office. The lady at the front desk thanked us for all our hard work on our way back out to leave. As we got on the bus and left, I felt fulfilled for everything done that day.
Day three of Mission Trip 2015 was unforgettable because I was able to help out the wonderful Cheyenne River community, I made new friendships, and reconnected with old friends. I was blessed because I was able to help out such a wonderful community and it inspired me to help back in my own town. I also made new friendships that I would cherish for the rest of my life. As well as reconnected with friends from my own school. Going on mission trips seemed pointless to some people, but they had given me experiences that I remembered for the rest of my

Peter slammed his office door and ruptured another splinter on its face like the thousands that plagued it. His shaky hands fixed three locks across the door that jarred into their familiar cradles. He dragged his chair through the cracked grooves in the floorboards and collapsed into it with a sigh. The paperwork on his desk was minimal. It was the nightmare garden he tended to every night once the children were dreaming, and his wife curled against her own skin, embraced by icy cotton sheets. It was not like they said it would be. Taking a cold shower from a pipe coming out of the basement wall of a seventy-five-year-old school was not fun. They said this would be the best week of my summer. Until I began writing this essay, I had never thought about the impact my experiences on Appalachian Service Project mission trips had contributed to my transition from childhood to adulthood. However, now I realize that not only was I affecting other people’s lives, but the work I was doing was also changing me. That was the best week of my summer, and so have the two following trips been that I have taken.…

This mission trip was impactful spiritually and mentally by changing my viewpoint of inner city missions. We served in tangible ways, providing people with their basic needs. Sometimes it is more effective to come out of your wheelhouse to experience or gain new perspectives. This is exactly what happened to me. I was pushed out of my comfort zone and have been grateful for it ever since. Leaving an impactful impression on me spiritually and mentally, this mission trip has been one of the most beneficial trips I have…

Something that surprised me was when we did the personality inventory and I was placed into the fire group. I expected to be in the air group because their traits were calm and laid back while the fire groups traits were cut throat and heartless. Looking back I can understand why I was placed in that group as I am clearly a cutthroat type person, sarcasm intended. Something that I learned that will help me with my future career planning is I’m not preparing to be anything that requires being in high places or during night hours for I have recently found out that I am not a fan of either of them. The trip was extremely worthwhile seeing that I learned to work and communicate with other people who I barely even knew. I also thought it was worthwhile because it helped me take a risk and complete the high ropes challenge, which helped me step out of my comfort zone. This trip was relevant to SHSM because it taught us how to be adventurous ad exploratory while being safe. I jogged around the camp o the first day and it helped me to admire the nature. In conclusion, I thought the trip to Cedar Glen was absolutely…

This summer, I was blessed with an amazing experience. I had the opportunity to travel to Haiti on a mission trip. Of course, I was slightly nervous about traveling to a third world country, where I did not know the language, and the only people I would know would be the people from the church that I was traveling with. However, I knew this would be a life changing experience, so I took the leap! I am so grateful I did because every second was worth it! Our mission was to work with orphans, help homeschool English speaking children, and meet with the women’s group of Grand Savann Christian Church.…

During the year of 2010, the summer before eighth grade year. I got the chance to participate in a five day youth mission trip in Galveston Texas with my church that went by the name of Oakwood Baptist Church. During the mission trip there would be many different activities that our church group would get to be a part of, such as an outdoor dodge ball tournament, indoor carnivals, and our very own Vacation Bible School. I was able to take part in this amazing adventure, and I couldn’t wait for it to begin.…

At one-thirty in the afternoon, Carolee Mitchell was running the vacuum cleaner, or she would have heard the first sirens and looked out. After the first, there weren’t any others. The calling voices, even the number of dogs barking, could have been students on their way back to school, high-spirited in the bright, cold earliness of the year. Thinking back on the sounds, Carolee remembered a number of car doors being slammed, that swallow of air and report which made her smooth her hair automatically even if she wasn’t expecting anyone. But what caught her eye finally was what…

My whole life I wanted to be a veterinarian, but I have recently found out I do not have the stomach for it. Then I wanted to be a physical therapist, but I have now settled on becoming an optometrist. I recently had a shadowing job. I really enjoyed it, and I can see myself doing this and enjoying it. One thing that really appealed to me was the opportunity for mission trips. I have always loved the idea of going on mission trips. I was blessed three years ago to go on a church mission trip. I was to Zacatecas, Mexico. We put on a VBS for the local children of the neighborhood. It was crazy because the VBS was held in a school, but most of it was outside with little shacks as school rooms. The whole school court was totally fenced in by a…

This trip gave me a new perspective on my family life; I have taken my whole family for regret. When I was going through depression and PTSD my mom was there for me every single day, and never told me that I was useless but understood what I was going through. Everything that has happened in my life, from taking my parents for granted, every meal wasted, useless money wasted, lying to my parents, and even just partying around all crashed before my eyes after meeting people who would love to just be accepted by the world or their families.…
