Charter schools are primary and secondary choice schools that receive public money such as donations, etc. from private entities. Charter schools are similar to other public schools as they are also exposed to the similar rules and regulations except they have more flexibility than that of traditional schools because charter schools are expected to perform at a certain level to gain certain results set by the school’s charter. A parliamentary select committee held a hearing on the Education Amendment Bill (proposal released by Associate Minister of Education, Hon. John Banks to the Cabinet Social Policy Committee) to permit for charter schools or partnership schools | (Kura Hourua) which are privately run but funded in partnership with the government. Charter schools (Kura Hourua) in NZ is being pushed by the Party Act Party to get the go-ahead. The issue that is ascending within the NZ education sector is that charter schools are being established in NZ because of underachievement within the current system and these schools are alleged to particularly focus on Pasfika, Maori, learners from low socio-economics backgrounds and learners with special education needs.

I recognize that high school students have different interest and passions.
