SHC 33: Promote equality and inclusion in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings

Diversity is the uniqueness of each individual. It literally means difference. It’s about recognising and valuing each person that makes Diversity equal. There are many factors of diversity, Some you can see, some aren’t visible the groups most likely to experience discrimination include; background, culture, personality, race, disability, gender, religion and belief, sexual orientation and age. Of which are protected by the discrimination legislation.
People are discriminated against because of stereo typical views that are persuade, which isn’t treating others equally. There are various types of discrimination, direct, indirect, segregation and victimisation. This can lead to missed opportunities that may affect the child’s experiences and development, low self esteem, low confidence, low self worth, low self esteem, low confidence, low self worth, low self value, confused identity and fear rejection.

Inclusion is firstly accepting each child as an individual, It’s including each child within a setting and celebrating their differences. Inclusion means ensuring everyone works together to achieve their full potential. IT is about equal opportunities for all children. A really good way of getting children involved together is role play (presentations, acting)

Equality means treating people in a way that is a appropriate to meet their own individual needs, that’s why its really important to get to know the basic needs of every child, because each and every child has different needs that need supporting to make every child equal in a child care setting.

Inclusive practice ensures that children from all backgrounds have a chance to access learning and play, this takes into consideration aspects of diversity including socio economic background, race, religion, gender.
