TITLE OF THE PROJECT:
Study of evolution of MIS in Indian Railways over last two decades
INTRODUCTION:
Indian Railways is one of the world's largest railway networks with a history of 150 years. Governed by Ministry of Railways, it traverses across the entire length and breadth of the nation. Railways were first introduced in India in 1853.Since then, the Indian Railways has evolved a lot and has made some major changes in terms of technology and the information system it uses. IT was introduced in Indian railways in 1960 in the form of computerized passenger and freight revenue accounting using IBM 1401 computers. It has come a long way since then. Indian railways is one of the best examples of those industries that has adopted IT successfully and has benefitted a lot in terms of increase in revenue and improvement in quality of service.

OBJECTIVES:
This project basically tracks * The way the MIS in Indian railways has progressed through the years. * Various levels across which information system works namely operational, knowledge level, managerial and strategic levels. * Role of IT industry in Indian Railways. * Evolution of IT in Indian railways in various stages like automation, synergy, global acceptance and integration. * Various tools used at different levels of information system. * Challenges faced by Indian railways * Future trends in IT in Indian
