The best selling burger that they have is simply called “The Mel Burger” and it features a full pound of beef, one half pound of bacon, and three slices of cheese. It was voted “best burger in town” by Texas Monthly in 2009. Maybe it is just Mel’s roots, or maybe it is just that “bigger and better” Texas attitude, but the small family café had to create a challenge burger. The challenge is to consume “The Mega Mel Burger” in less than two hours without getting sick. The Mega Mel is made of 24 ounces of ground beef, a full pound of bacon, one-quarter pound of cheese, and all of the trimmings. On order to get your name on the wall, you must be able to walk and talk without getting sick after completing the challenge. This challenge has created quite a stir of excitement around the café, and attracts new customers quite often.…

The American hamburger is an American classic and the most recognizable menu item in the fast food industry. Even though there are many different takes on the types of meats, toppings, and dressings used, the hamburger has been a restaurant regular and historical favorite of both children and adults. The hamburger can even bridge cultural and religious divides. It can unite the masses, and with that being said many people agree that all burgers are not created equal. While McDonald’s is synonymous with happy childhoods and those long bumpy road trips, In-N-Out caters to the majority of young adults past the age of fourteen desires a more sophisticated burger.…

Over the years, Jerry has stood by his original value to just sell burgers and fries and execute it well (Joiner, 2012). His philosophies have remained strong and his success can be attributed to three main factors: Product specialization, human resources, and branding. Product specialization, has given Five Guys the competitive differentiation they need in the market. Burgers are made to order and fresh never frozen with up to 15 free toppings (Boone, 2012, p. 78). This leads to over 250,000 burger combinations (FGH, 2012). Under FAQ’s they only use 80/20 chuck ground beef for quality and cow fat is absent. They always cook their burgers well done to ensure a consistent juicy flavored product across the board that meets health code standards (FGH,…

    1. In-N-Out Burgers have broken all the rules and thanks to that their average per store sales eclipse those of McDonald’s. With that said, In-N-Out’s customers must really enjoy their burger in order to continue going back to the company. In-N-Out has not changed anything since day one and that is their way of keeping their customer’s well-being. As stated in the text, their philosophy till this day still remains the same; “Give customers the freshest, highest quality foods you can buy and provide them with friendly service in a sparkling clean environment.” Based on their philosophy we can see that giving their customers the best food and experience is In-N-Out’s main goal. When it comes to getting every burger ready the company does it best to provide fresh food to their customers. Their patties are never frozen, the veggies are diced by hand the day they are being used, there is no additives or preservatives in their food. The company is not only in business for the money but to also because they value their customers and want the best for them.…

Walking into a fast food joint, one expects to be met by a sweet aroma of the delicious foods that are quite appealing. Considering they are supposed to serve customers as fast as they can while at the same time maintaining quality service. Upon entering a fast food restaurant, one would expect to have a view of the whole place in a glance, with counters just around the bend for customers to make their purchase. One would also expect to find people around helping customers make fast purchases as well as clearing tables for people to eat. Without such quality, a fast food restaurant cannot be up to par. Burger King is the fast food restaurant I visited a few days ago, and fortunately did not disappoint my expectations; rather, I was surprised by their smooth, fast service and tasty foods as well as the restaurant itself.…

The McDonald’s brothers, who developed the Speedee Service System in 1948, made all this possible (Schlosser 19). This system began the industrialization of the food industry; which essentially gave birth to a new industry, fast food. Now one person grills the burgers, another person “dresses” them, and another prepares the milkshakes (20). This system rapidly increases the rate of food production. According to the McDonald’s corporation website, McDonald’s operates more than 30,000 restaurants world-wide and serves more than 47,000,000 people every single day. The key behind all this success is the American ideology of convenience. When people feel a craving for food, a uniformly made burger, fries, and drink will materialize in minutes. The concept of fast food is exceptional because it creates a quick way to produce a sit-down meal. One could argue that…
