Minors: A Narrative Fiction
The sound of my phone wakes us all too early that afternoon. My eyes are barely open as I crawl across the floor and fumble through my satchel finally upending the entire bag and spreading the contents over the floor.

“Shit babe, whatever it is can wait, come back over here.”

“It’s probably Zeek or Roman. I forgot to tell them we were back,”

What I thought was voice mail is actually a text and when I open it up I knew I was going to have a lot of explaining to do. I’d been in Minors Fork for less than a day, back together with Kane a little over twenty-four hours and my world is going to go to shit all because of fucking Menendez—again!

Lost in my pissed off thoughts, Kane rips the phone from my hands before I can close the screen.

He’s

“You got something to say, then say it, but wipe that look off your face first because I didn’t give that bastard my number and despite what you just read, I never agreed to meet with him all those times at the track. He stalked me. He made it clear he could get to me. He told me what he wanted and when I said no he threatened to go after you in Boston. And yea, I’m sorry you have to learn this way, but I put you on lock down and had a private security firm on you. I’d do it again too.” I’m defiant, severe and not seeking forgiveness.

Menendez is fucking with me. Somehow, he knows I’m with Kane and I fell right into his trap letting him see the text he sent. How the hell he got my number I’ll never know. The man seems to have unlimited access to my life.

So nice to see you made it back to Minors Fork. Plan on meeting again like we have so many times before. I’ve got a new proposition for you now that you’re no longer under contract. You can’t protect Kane forever. See you soon. Salvador

I’m surprised that Kane isn’t bald the way he’s running his hands through his hair. He’s started pacing again too. At least that’s good exercise for his leg. I have to say, I’m enjoying the view which makes his seething tolerable at the

How many times has he gotten to you Alessandra and why the hell didn’t you tell me?” He hasn’t let go my phone but at least the screens gone dark as he growls out his words.

“I planned to tell you, but obviously, I didn’t get the chance. I just wanted us to have some time together without talking about Menendez and all the shit that comes with him screwing it up.”

“You have something to do with the club not telling me about Menendez getting to you? You got my club keeping me in the dark, following your commands?”

Shit, this is taking a bad turn fast. Like I could take over his club or would want to. Not on my to-do list.

“The club only knows that one time he confronted me at the track.” I speak calmly, sitting on the cold floor while he pulls on a pair of jeans and a long sleeve Henley.

“The other times were at different venues, different cities. He seemed like he always knew how to get to me without drawing attention to himself. I know what he wants and I know he’s not going to hurt me. The only way he can do that is by getting to you so I made you inaccessible and that protected both of us.” If he can’t see the logic to my actions nothing I say will ever matter. But, as I said before, I wouldn’t hesitate to do anything I did again. It was the right

You, Anthony and I were in the cafeteria playing on our Ipads. Anthony took your phone off the table and handed it to me under the table. You saw it and took it back. Then Anthony made a gesture and it looked like he wanted me to grab it( I had no intentions of stealing it). so I did grab it and went to the locker room. I found a paper clip on the floor and picked it up and took the sim card out just in case it rang and I got a Jug. as I was going to put the sim card in the back of the case I saw you and Anthony and I got scared because Anthony popped up out of nowhere and I dropped the sim card. when you went back to the cafeteria you turned on the phone and it said "no service" so you checked the side of it (where the sim card slot is)…
