Minor League baseball is much simpler form of baseball than what a lot of people watch on TV at the major league level. Minor league baseball is more of a local business due to their local popularity and finances. The recent problems with the economy have hit the Long Island Ducks very hard. I’m going to recommend three new strategies to implement this season to build business not only this season but in seasons to come.
This season I would like to introduce Duck Nation. Duck Nation is a is a group that you can sign up free (unlike the Duck Club) through the Long Island Ducks website. The creation of this professional baseball organization will not only bring the excitement and magnitude of a professional sports team to the residents of Augusta, but will provide an opportunity to the state of Maine and nearby states to be close to a quality baseball team. As this team will be regulated by the MLB, the official schedule of team events and competition will begin in March and end in September, with the possibility of games being extended into October pending a spot in the post-season. Additionally, the Augusta Predators hope to entice local MLB fans and future fans, as well as garner the attention of MLB fans both nationally and internationally. Through this, the Augusta Predators can start, as well as continue to grow into one of the largest sources of entertainment in the state of Maine, as well as the…

One of the most confusing things for baseball fans is free agency. Free agency is a complicated set of rules that has been negotiated in labor agreements between owners and players for more than 30 years. In major league baseball, a free agent is a baseball player with six or more years of major league service whose contract has expired for the following season, or is an amateur player who was not drafted by a team in the annual draft. The type of baseball player is now able to enter into free agency. Once in free agency, a baseball player is in a group of other free agents, from which teams can sign players. This means that a player is free to solicit offers from other teams for new contracts.…

In 1817 Major League Baseball came into existence and the object of the game was to create different teams with and even number of players on each side. Each team owner has an opportunity to select the players that he feels would be the best at a certain position. The best players would be hired to help create wins. In turn, the teams with the most recognized players would receive the most recognition, that team would produce the highest number of ticket sales, and a large fan base that would follow the club. Owners of the teams would earn the most money, build the best stadiums, provide perks that lure better players to his team, and pay salaries non-noticeable teams could not afford.…

The way baseball is managed to me is a business like every other business, you have the owners, the general managers, the middle management, couches, assistant couches, and the team. They all have an extremely important part that they do in the operations of the franchise. All members work to acquire the same goal and that is to have a chance at being in the World Series, so every decision effects the way that can happen, weather it is the franchise recruiting a new player or the couch not playing a certain player, or the pitcher not throwing the ball correct, it is a team effort by all involved.…

I was playing baseball in the spring of my junior year at Athens High School. It was a big game for the team. If we won, we still could make the playoffs, but if we lost, our playoffs hopes crushed. I was in the starting lineup playing first base and batting sixth. It was the third inning and it was still a tied game at zero. Muscle Shoals had a runner on second base with one out. The Muscle Shoals batter hit the ball to third base; our third baseman fielded the ball and threw the ball towards me at first. The ball was thrown off line up into the baseline. I stretch trying to keep my foot on the bag and make the catch. As soon as I caught the ball the hitter collided with me. The collision sent the ball and my glove soaring into right field.…

During the summer, I participated in a travel softball team and it showed me sportsmanship and great character building skills. The summer before I came to ASMS, I hurt my rotator cuff and was unable to play the rest of the summer, and with coming to ASMS I had not played in almost a full year. When I started playing again, I barely played in tournaments. I usually sat the bench or “splinter field.” It really hurt my feelings for a while and even made me feel like I had lost my talent for the sport I loved to play since I was six years old. For several tournaments, I felt like quitting and going home. I hated just sitting and not being able to even throw a ball. After a month of sitting, I realized that it was okay. He invited me to play when…

A time I was involved in solving a conflict is when I was manager of my baseball team during high school. Baseball is a competitive sport and every athlete on the team has to prove to the coach that they deserve a starting position. Athletes performances during games and practices are how the coach determines whether or not a player can start. Conflicts arise between players where one athlete thinks he should have started over another player. This type of conflict occurred often and sometimes this type of conflict can lead to fights.…
