Mindfulness Mediation Research Paper
The deliberate practice of mindfulness usually takes the form of mindfulness mediation and it just so happens that this is the form that mindfulness takes in my life. It is asserted by Walsh (1983), that the objective of mindfulness mediation is the “development of deep insight into the nature of mental processes, consciousness, identity, and reality, and the development of optimal states of psychological well-being and consciousness through opening up.” (Snyder, Lopez, Pedrotti, 2008). I always mediate as a means of relaxation. I tend to get stressed very easily, ,therefore mindfully mediating helps me to distress. Mindful mediation truly helps with the self and mind.     Data was collected from 27 participants after participating in a mindfulness training which was developed specific to the occupational context and the most common occupational context was health care. Results of this study concluded that mindfulness training was truly effective in reducing employee stress and strain. The study additionally indicated that there was a significant relationship between mindfulness training, job performance, and employee engagement but advised that further research needed to be conducted to make firm conclusions.     Sometimes I think the translation of the word "mindfulness" is incorrect in two ways. Right Mindfulness is a step of the Eightfold Path and is the centerpoint of Buddhist practice. First, it's not a good translation because "mindfulness" is kind of an insipid word. "Be mindful" -- what does that mean? It doesn't have the kind of inspiring quality of spaciousness, courage, or living fully. Perhaps if you pronounced it differently and said, mindfulness, that would be a better understanding of the word and its power. But a more fundamental difficulty in even talking about mindfulness, whatever that means for us, is that the mind and the heart are the same word in Sanskrit or Pali.
