Curley’s wife is often portrayed as lonely, “I get awful lonely”. This is because she is the only woman on the ranch and therefore nobody wants to talk to her as they all think that she is a “rattrap” and they don’t want any trouble. Consequently, the only person she can talk to is Curley; she expresses her frustration in only being able to talk to him in Section 5 when she is in the barn with Lennie “I never get to talk to nobody.” This shows that she wants to talk to someone other than Curley. Curley's wife continues to tell us about her dream of becoming a movie star. She loves the clothes “all them nice clothes” the make-up, and most of all the attention, “had pitchers took of me.” Her dream may explain why her appearance means so much to her, she wants to feel like a movie star. We find out that a man from Hollywood said he would make her famous, he told her that she was “natural” and that he would write to her as soon as he got back to Hollywood. She never received the letter and suspected that her mother stole it,“I ast her if she stole it, too, an’ she says no. So I married Curley.” She only married Curley to spite her mother who she thought was holding her back from her big break-through. It is here, in the barn with Lennie when we first find out about Curley's wife’s past, and we discover maybe there is more to her than meets the eye. She tells Lennie that Curley’s “not a nice fella”, and she says “I don’ like Curley”, this would explain why she is so lonely as Curley is the only person she can talk to and she doesn’t even like him. Steinbeck has used section five to make the reader feel compassion for Curley's wife before she is killed by…

In life many people, groups, organizations make pacts with each other. When a person marries, a pact is formed or established between the two, man and woman. Most of the pacts are not fulfilled due to the group, individual or organizations not able to fully commit to living out the pact requirements. According to Civitas EU Facts, seventeen EU members who used the Euro funds to support their economy agreed to keep the amount of funds spending and borrow in control to assist with economic stability and growth of their respective country. The agreement was called the Euro Stability and Growth Pact. Many Eurozone members were not able to keep the rules. As a result in 2005, the rules were changed to allow flexibility among the countries and later 2011 the Pact was reformed to tighten the rules.…

The first soliloquy of Hamlet falls in the Act 1, Scene II, after the King Claudius and the Queen Gertrude urges Hamlet in the open court to cast off the deep melancholy which, as they think, has taken possession of his mind as a consequence of his father’s death. In their opinion, Hamlet has sufficiently grieved for his father’s death already. Prior to the soliloquy, the King Claudius and Queen Gertrude makes announcement to their marriage, as according to them, the court could not afford excessive grief, which further saddens Hamlet.…

In our daily lives we often compare and contrast two or more items. We might compare and contrast family members, TV shows, or favorite bands. The comparison and contrast pattern of organization is also common in many college textbooks. It is used to discuss ways in which two or more items are the same and how they differ.Signal WordsExample #1Here’s a short reading that demonstrates the compare and contrast pattern. Notice the comparison words in italics and the contrast words in bold.My family consists of four siblings, my two sisters, my brother, and I. Growing up, we didn’t always get along, but today, my sisters are my best friends. Both sisters are loyal to a fault, dedicated workers, and extroverted. If either of us ever has problems, we know we can rely on each other. I once broke down in the middle of the night hundreds of miles from home. I called first one and then the other sister. They not only returned my call, but they rode together to help me get home. This caring behavior also extends to their work. Although they work in different fields, they are similarly loyal to the companies for whom they work at a time when many people hop from one job to the next. My sister Trudy has been in banking at the same firm for over 10 years. In contrast, my younger sister, Terri, works in health care. Still, she has been with the same company for over 20 years. Both sisters are friendly and they are magnets for new people. The youngest prefers small parties at low key work events, unlike my sister Trudy, who throws large parties and coordinates elegant dinner parties and events.Because we are familiar with comparing and contrasting people and items in our daily lives, we can recognize this brief paragraph as a comparison/contrast between two people. What are their similarities?Comparison signal words from this passage include: both, also, similarly, and still. The two sisters are compared because they…
