Mike Sleadd Visual Analysis

Mike Sleadd piece titled Third Eye depicts as the title says third eye and the text in the drawing which assists as visual image makes the piece magnificent to perceive. The piece was made in 2004 with pen and ink on a paper. The piece is currently being exhibited at the Alice C. Sabatini Gallery for the show txt me and it is on loan from the artist. The piece represents text to communicate words to the viewer using readily apparent. The piece is 15 by 22 inches and Sleadd used a combination of blank ink on a white background paper to give the viewers highest readability.
The work shows a man with three eyes where the third eye is horizontal on the forehead. This piece of work can be seen as portrait. The third eye is open and bigger than the other two eyes and the left eye is drawn in a way that it looks like it is closed. The text is in the background of the piece, so the man is surrounded with words which implies to the thoughts and the stories that this individual might had to share with the viewers. As we observed closely the text in the piece serves as a visual image and communicates with words to the viewer. The text in the picture is used to explain what can the third eye be used for and the stories that the individual in the piece have to say to the viewers. The third eye can be used to see the meaning in all things, can be put it in a room to eavesdrop on conversation, view intimate moments and can catch the bad guys. The artist also writes some stories related to the third eye in the text like there was a time when the police borrowed the third eye, tied it to a rope, and lowered it into a deep hole because they thought that a girl has fallen done that hole.
