Midwifeship Admission Essay

I have spent the past 3 years travelling the world, gaining insight into many different cultures and ways of life, encountering thousands of individuals from many diverse backgrounds. I am confident in the knowledge, that now is now the time for me to begin pursuing a career that enables me to utilise the variety of invaluable life experience skills I have gained. Midwifes play key roles in upholding autonomy and empowerment of women pre-natal onwards, I aim to honour this through commitment to the highest possible quality of care within the bounds of professional ability. I’m particularly interested in the community based roles of a midwife, due to the benefits for women through case loading, such as continuity and a fundamentally trusting relationship,
Rarely working with the same people in succession, I can establish firm working relationships in a matter of minutes, similar to the immediate rapport I will build with my mentors and colleagues. I see many parallels with my current job and health care, such as the professional interaction needed to provide a service. It echoes the multidisciplinary dynamic between nurses and midwives, doctors and patients. This form of role based team work in order to provide a care is a professional insight I’m really fortunate to have already gained. One of the many things that fortified my interest in the marvel of birth was my experience foaling mares during my school years managing smallholdings. Although completely separate from women’s care, I relished the responsibility of keeping watch overnight for potential deliveries, dealing with troublesome births and sadly, sometimes the consequences of unsuccessful births. Delivering a new life alone in the middle of the night was both harrowing as well as heartwarming. I believe I would be a strong candidate for this course, due to my empathetic, hard working
