Middle School Struggles
Math has been easy for me till i hit high school. I did not struggle in middle school or in elementary school. Why i think i did not struggle in middle school is because the teachers were better at teaching and actually dedicating themselves to teach the kids and for them to have a better understanding. In the past when i used to struggle in math i was confident enough to ask the teacher for help. But now that i am in high school that changed because the teacher is kind of mean and does not really teach well. In the past when i would struggle on a difficult problem i would work and continue working until i could figure out the solution. I was doing this because wen i was in elementary school i felt more like i know what i was doing instead

The hardest concept for me was simplifying quadratic equations. I was unsure when to use certain steps and simplifying odd square roots was difficult for me. I could have done more studying on the study plan and even online. I also should have attended the math tutoring available at our local University of Phoenix. I am not one to just guess answers without trying my hardest. I can not stand to have a problem and not find the solution. I also noticed one…

The most difficult concept for me was in week eight when we solved fractions, decimals, percent and real number problems. This concept was difficult because I had to spend more time on them. My biggest struggle was fractions and decimals because I do not use them on a daily basis. When I am helping a struggling child with fractions, I will use food, candy, or manipulative to teach them fractions in addition to helping the student in the classroom by letting him…

In fact, it is a requirement for California high school graduates. By learning these math skills in school, it helps students for their daily life and in their later professions.…

In general, I would describe my ability in math as average. I did well in elementary, but middle school was when I started having difficulties. When I took math I, I mostly got B’s and C’s on my tests, because I had a hard time understanding the material, or asking the teacher if I needed help with a certain concept. Overall, I think my average grade for math would be a B, but I would like to improve this year and get an A for a final grade. My parents definitely contributed to my overall success. If I didn’t have their support, I wouldn’t be where I am today. I disliked learning trigonometry and graphing functions. I took math II online, so I wasn’t able to really use a worksheet and graph any problems for myself. I liked the substitution…

Many students claim that middle school is exceedingly straightforward and easy, whereas others claim that middle school is complex and difficult. For those who succeed in school and claim school is easy say that because they work diligently. It’s not because they are naturally talented. The students who say middle school is difficult and flounder in their studies say school is difficult because they don’t work assiduously and they don’t have perseverance. In fact, there are several kids at school who are talented fail their classes. This is because they don’t have grit and they are also often too lazy to do their work. In my own case, I am considered as one of the naturally talented people. Many of my peers think that I receive good grades because I am talented. However, I know this is not the case. In reality, I have been recieving good grades because I have been working diligently. Most homework assignments in middle school require hard work, critical thinking, and perseverance(which means no procrastinating). There are also many conundrums and…

Originally, I did not enjoy math when I was in Vietnam because the teachers focused too much on strict memorization, while giving little attention to applications. However, when I started school in America in my sixth grade year, my passion for math developed. Initially, it was the only subject in which I excelled, due to my disadvantage of not speaking English, but eventually finding an answer to a math problem would become an adventure for me. I never gave up on finding an answer even if it meant working from sun to sun. Throughout my high school years, I have always maintained an A plus in all of my math, science, and Latin courses. Also, I was the student who scored highest in my school, a 98, on the Algebra II End of Course exam. I presently taking College Algebra and…

In elementary the simple rubric math was relatively easy for me. I thought that during my last year in elementary, math would be no problem for me. Well, that was not the case. Sixth grade came and math became my worst nightmare. Once I passed sixth grade, seventh was no better and let’s not mention eight grade. In my freshman year in high school I finally was tired of barley passing math so I made it my goal to pass algebra 1 with an A. I first began to check out math books for dummies at my local library, and was more than determined to learn this. My hard work towards the end of my freshman year paid off and I ended the year with a grade higher than a 95. My teacher was impress with my efforts that he suggested that I double up on math and graduate with 6 math credits instead of the required four or five if…

Throughout history the U.S school systems have changed quite a bit. During the 1900s to the 1960s the U.S school system was organized in different categories. Such as, some schools within the U. S were called junior high which was like a mini-version of high school. While other schools across the nation were more like a middle school approach. Nonetheless, a man named William Alexander had a enough and started the middle school movement, he realized along with other educators the need and importance to having a one system approach. For example, by having the one school system approach it open the reality of the truth behind junior high schools. Even though they helped prepare adolescents for high school without putting them in the same building with older teenagers it still delayed developments. While during the 1960s middle school supports argued that sixth-grade students benefitted from being separated from elementary students because it sped up their academic progress.…

Given feedback regarding past teachers, it was not necessarily a lack of interest in the math but rather low test grades which did not reflect my true capabilities. I enjoyed math. This was not the problem; the problem was remembering all the material for the test. Knowing the material one day and learning the material for the test are two different things. I would come to learn this later. After many more low test scores my grades in Pre-Calculus started to increase. The application of my tools and my determination had led to this improvement. This was exactly what I needed to reach a seventy-seven in Pre-Calculus. This was the point when I realized, as long as I felt that I had put in everything to achieve this grade then I would succeed. I had the tools to succeed in this class and all that was left was to actually follow through with my…
