Middle School Singing Research Paper
Ever since I was little I loved singing whether it was in the car to the radio or in a choir class. Whenever I step foot in a choir room that’s when I can just feel like I’m at home, it’s almost like choir room is my second home. No matter how much people could try to hold me back nothing can keep me from my love of music. I always sang my heart out in elementary music class even though most kids would rather be in P.E. I didn’t care I just wanted to sing. It wasn’t until 5th grade when I was the only one that actually tried in music class and sang out. I remember one day when this boy named Justin who had to sit next me told me I sucked at singing, but I just ignored him. Until the next day of music class when he repeatedly told me how bad a was at singing. So I decided to not let it bother me and just moved on with my life. Finally middle school choir where people actually care about singing and they have the option to take the choir class or not. Well in 7th grade I auditioned for our school's show choir but I didn’t make it, but I understood that like all the girls in it were 8th graders. By 8th grade I had become a main part of the alto section because I would carry the sound and I would …show more content…
I tried to just ignore her and sit in different places in the choir room so I wouldn’t be beside her. Sometimes she would sit beside me and she would plug her ears when we were singing and then tell me that I was off pitch, sounded horrible, and that I should just stop singing. So as time went on I began to back off on my singing and sing quietly. When the choir director realized what Andrea had been saying and doing the teacher put Andrea in her spot and told her I’m the one that actually sings the right notes and carries the sound for the whole section. Even after Andrea stopped I still didn’t feel confident about my singing and I questioned if I wanted to even audition for 14

I started first on the bass drum, with me being on of the smallest members, I looked pretty comical. Although, I didn’t care, I was only gracious to be a part of such an amazing and talented group of individuals. Choir and singing then became a big aspect of my life and educational career as well; meeting new friends and peers along the way was one of my most cherished memories. I first started singing in middle school, and then continued into my high school years as well. I can honestly say that by joining band and choir, it has connected me with life long friends and has given me many forever cherished memories. They have both pushed me in ways that I couldn’t have pushed myself, taught me many valuable life lessons, gave me the gifts of perseverance and concentration, and have shaped me into the able woman I am today. Over the years I’ve taught others to love music just as much as I do by working with middle and elementary school children. I have also taught at the preschool program located in my high school, desiring to teach them how to push past the obstacles they can not prevent and redirecting their feelings into positivity and valuable…

The support system of being in a group gets people out of the house and into chorus every week which is just one of the benefits that is specific to group singing and is the key part of why choral singers are reportedly happier than people who aren't choral singers. This joyousness that choral singers find in singing has been found in many cultures for many generations. There is a strong amount of nations where the mothers singing to their young seems common thread among the world- that would be the reason every nation has at least one lullaby. In fact, in the Women's Honor Choir we are singing "All the Pretty Horses", a Traditional American lullaby written from the perspective mother or caretaker singing a baby to sleep, promising that when the child wakes he or she "shall have all the pretty little horses". When we sing songs from diverse cultures and time periods we gain opportunities to learn about the cultures of others, and gain a better understanding of our own cultures and history. Another social virtue that chorus members embark on the path to would be empathy. Empathy or otherwise known as identifying oneself completely with an object or person, (Dictionary.com) is first reached by learning how to subsume into a group consciousness, immersing one's self into the community, which is something that is ultimately learned by any member in any choir. That’s one of the great feelings- that moment when we're performing and I get to stop being 'me' for a while so I can become 'us' feels great being a part of something bigger than…

Whether it being onstage in my school's production of High School Musical or being in a crowd of other classmates playing my saxophone with my best friend during a band concert. Weather singing in my school choir or yelling loud at a cheer competition I became engulfed in the conversation between audience and performer, and through these performances I have made blissful memories. I would not have the opportunity I have today if it weren't for Mrs. Harvey, my 8th grade choir teacher, demanding that I audition for our middle school honor choir. I never would have known the love and the passion that I have for music and I would not be the person I am today.…

Starting off with the end of eighth grade year is when I realized how much my life would change after one decision. My small group of friends consisted of them being in band. I remember seeing posters announcing to come try out for color guard which is a performing arts program during marching season in high school. I had a couple of friends who were convincing me to join since that would mean we would all be in band. My best decision was going to try out and making the team.…

In the spring of my freshman year I auditioned for a spot on the snare line and I got it. I had wanted to be a snare player since my sixth grade year and I had finally made it, but something had changed. I used to think being a snare meant that you were the best of the best and everything else was second rate. After being in front ensemble for a year and going to snare the next year, I realized that neither one was better or worse than the other. They were just different from each other.…

I had joined my church youth choir and loved every moment of it. Then, once middle school came I decided I wanted to continue my music education by joining the band playing the trombone. The next year I decided to try out for the middle school field hockey team and made it. I continued with band and field hockey until my freshman year of high school when I had the intentions of quitting field hockey in order to pursue marching band because no one had ever done both before. I soon came to my senses and decided that not only was I going to continue with both band and field hockey, but I was also going to be the first person to successfully do that. On top of this, I decided I would audition for the school musical and jazz ensemble which would also overlap with the end of the marching band and field hockey seasons. Through much communication with my coaches and band directors, and musical directors I was able to accomplish this for all four years of my high school career and I wouldn't have had it any other…

When we are talking about the Broadway Musicals, we would think about the theatre music. In the very early 20th Century in America, the theatre music was booming, there were thirty-three legitimate Broadway theatres in New York, over 3,000 professional theatres across the United States, and more was going to be built to meet the audience demand. The famous actor was Al Jolson, a ‘charismatic performer’ in Broadway. His performance saved Warner Bros. from bankruptcy. The Singing Fool which made the gross income of $5.5m, a biggest income only to be exceeded by Gone With The Wind eleven years later.…

At the age of 7, my sister Stephanie 6 and I, along with my best friend Georgina 8, and my cousin Necie 8; won 1st place at one of many Talent Shows held at the after school center on Friday nights, doing our interpretation of Diana Ross and the Supremes. The song we sang was Stop In The Name of Love. This surly was one of the greatest moments in my childhood. We were all dressed up in our long red and white Christmas gowns, that’s what little girls wore back then, to our surprise before the show started Georgina’s mom even put rouge ( now called blush) and lipstick on our little faces, we had so much fun that night, when we took the stage we all felt like real Movie Stars. To this day we still remember how proud we felt, as everyone cheered us on, and how exciding it was to be all dressed up like ladies. Today we still talk about it at family gatherings. Absolutely! This is one of my favorite achievements as a child.…
