Micro-Electrode Area Case Study
CAPITOLUL 4

    Chronoamperometry Essay

Chronoamperometry is one of several electrochemical techniques which quantify the oxidation or reduction current of electroactive molecules at an electrode. Oxidation or reduction can be induced by changing the applied voltage at the working electrode. The concentration of the electroactive molecules is proportional to the current produced by their oxidation or reduction, which allows one to determine the concentration of electroactive neurotransmitters and other biological molecules of interest. In the chronoamperometry method, a carbon fiber microelectrode (CFM) and a Ag/AgCl reference electrode are placed in a solution of interest or directly into the brain in order to measure the concentration of biogenic amines such as NE. After initially…

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a group of neurological disorders characterized by hypokinesia, tremor and muscle stiffness. In patients who suffer this disease surgery is used DBS (Deep Brain surgery) as an alternative, in these inserts a microelectrode that stimulated the neurons by an electrical current. The quantification of this neuronal activity is known as the Volume Tissue Activated…

There are two phases of SMPUs which are fixed phase and reversible phase, or defines as hard segment and soft segments. The soft and hard segments have a tendency to phase separate and aggregate into soft and hard phase due to the thermo-dynamic incompatibility caused by huge difference of polarity2. Phase transition try to a great change in physical properties of SMPUs. The principle is a vast of modulus and micro-Brownian motion on heating via glass transition or melting temperature can be used in the design of shape memory behavior, large glassy state modulus result in larger shape fixity upon cooling and unloading, while a large rubbery state modulus guide to large shape recovery around heating and standing at high temperature, like the figure 1. Shape memory polyurethane would be deformed if the reversible phase was heated to a soften state. When the reversible phase was cooled to a hardened state, it could maintain the deformation…
