Michael Vick: A Tragic Hero
Michael Vick is an extraordinary example of a tragic hero. Although Vick doesn't come from some great monarchy,he was still a person held in admiration by fans. Vick is currently the quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, but getting there was very difficult after a series of downfalls that almost led to his demise. His mother worked two jobs to support him but still required public financial aid. They lived in a crime filled neighborhood in public housing. Starting at infancy, his life was surrounded by crime.

As Vick grew up, he found ways avoid his surroundings, like football. In high school, Vick was a star. He received multiple division one scholarships. He chose to stay as close to home as possible so he went to Virginia Tech. Vick

During his freshman year he started the season as a seventh string quarterback. Favre looked to take over the starting position in the first half of the third game. Although suffering a hangover he led the team to a comeback win. In his third season with the Southern Mississippi Golden Eagles Favre upset the 6th ranked Florida State Seminoles. Brett Favre threw the game winning pass with just 23 seconds left as he put up a six and a half minute drive. Just before Brett Favre’s senior year start he had one of the scariest things happen in his life. Brett Favre lost control of his car going around a turn near his house. His car flipped three times and finally stopped resting on a tree. One of Brett’s brothers busted the window out and was taken to a hospital on an ambulance. On the ride to the hospital Favre just kept asking his mom if he will ever be able to play football again. Favre had to get emergency surgery and the doctors removed thirty inches of his intestines. Favre then hosted a comeback win over the Alabama Rolling Tide. After the game Alabama Head coach Gene Stallings said “You can call it a miracle or a legend or whatever you want.     The term “tragic hero” is usually defined by one of the most important characters throughout a Greek or Roman play. Both plays Hamlet and Oedipus are both tragedies, because they display a conflict between the protagonist and a superior force which is their destiny. Having a distressed or catastrophic conclusion that leads to pity or terror. A tragic hero always acts exactly on his or her own emotions; thus aiding their tragic flaw and leading to their own demise without giving them the time to stop the repercussions of their emotion driven actions. Before analyzing that Hamlet and Oedipus, the critical approach used in both plays are archetypal analysis. Both tragic heroes, must at least follow the following; royal birth or of a higher class, they must have a fatal flaw, usually their punishment outweighs their crime, and then finally, sometime during where tragedy takes place there should be some sort of self-realization for that character.
