Michael Vick

When Michael Vick went to federal prison the general thought was that he would never be an NFL quarterback again the redemption of Michael Vick to being NFL quarterback again has started. Michael Dwayne Vick was born on June 26,1980 in Newport News, Virginia to Brenda Vick and Michael Boddle . The second of four children Michael and his family lived in the Ridley Circle Home, a public housing project in a financially depressed and crime-ridden neighborhood. Michael Vick told the Newport News Daily Press in 2001 interview that when he was 10 or 11, “ I would go fishing even if the fish weren’t biting, just to get away from the violence and stress of daily life in the projects”(Wood, 2001).

Michael Vick started his football journey at Homer L. Ferguson High School in Newport News. AS a freshman he impressed many with his athletic ability and continue growing as a player who till this day holds many of the records in the High school history (Wood, 2001). In 1998 Michael Vick left the housing project with a football scholarship to Virginia Tech. Michael Vick redshirt his freshman year but the next two years he dominated the college football games. Michael Vick enter the NFL draft in 2001, he was drafted number one pick by the Atlanta Falcons the first African-American quarterback ever taken in that position. Michael Vick first professional coach, Dan Reeves had said Vick’s talent “made you scratch your head and wonder what you just saw”(Leitch, 2011).

Michael Vick in six seasons lead the Falcons to playoffs twice and was selected to three Pro Bowls. April 2007, Michael Vick was implicated in an illegal interstate dog fighting ring that had operated for five years. In August 2007 he pleaded guilty to federal felony charges and served 21 months in prison, followed by two months in home confinement(Leitch, 2011). Falcons owner Arthur Blank did not want Vick on the Falcons, so he was released and the NFL closed its door on him...
