Michael Stevens – The face of VSauce

Michael Stevens on June 24th 2010 created VSauce; a Youtube channel with 9.2 million subscribers, who both educates and entertains people with quirky, and curious topics such as “What is Left?” and “Would Headlights Work at Light Speed?” (VSauce, 2010). He has said that his videos are not only about answering those questions, but to ‘Bring people in with a great question, make them curious, and then once they’re there- Accidentally teach them a whole bunch of things about the Universe’ (Tedx, 2013).

Michael's first informative speech was about Ketchup, which he aptly named “Catch-up about Ketchup” in which he won first place. This was where his journey began, where he describes ‘seeing the expression on someone’s face when they suddenly understand and are fascinated by something like you are’ as a phenomenal thing (SixtySymbols, 2013). This was recognised by Ben Relles who ran the Youtube channel ‘Barely Political’. Relles gave him an opportunity to move to New York City to work as a Cameraman where he learned most of the editing and camera skills that he uses in his current videos (SixtySymbols, 2013).After the 2008 presidential election, the company began a move in a musical direction, which Michael thought since he has no personal skill or interest in music he would take this opportunity to begin his own channel called VSauce (Tedx, 2013).

Michael Stevens may be one of the developed world's most influential people at this point in time, with his achievements and accomplishments stemming from his own personal desire to share knowledge with other people. His great passion has led him to present at TED conferences, make connections with greater educators, and scientists of the world and give every person, no matter of education, race, age or gender, entertainment and quality knowledge. He is an ambassador of information that wants only to watch the world
