So after reading American Stories and other online sources, I learned some additional facts about his life, including the fact that at age 13, Jackson was captured and sent to prison. Both Andrew Jackson and his older brother Robert were imprisoned together. While in captivity, a British Officer slashed his head for refusing to shine his boots. As well as, both brothers contracted small pox before their mother Elizabeth arranged for their release in a prisoner exchange. Sadly, Robert died on the journey home.
