Michael Joseph Jackson was a man who went under the name "King of Pop" he was an American musician, and one of the most successful entertainers. His unique contributions to music, dance and his personal life, made him a prominent figure in popular culture for four decades. Timeline:
Aug. 29, 1958: Born at 12:13 AM as Michael Joseph Jackson in Gary, Indiana, to Katherine Esther Scruse and Joseph Walter Jackson.
1962/1963: Michael becomes a member of the Jackson 5 along with his brothers Tito, Jackie, Jermaine, and Marlon. He becomes the lead singer. Their father, Joe, was their manager. Their first played gig ever was at a place called Mr. Lucky's.
May 16, 1966: Sister Janet Damita Jo is born.
1967: Around this time Jackson began hiding spiders in his older sister LaToya's bed.
1968: The Jackson 5 signs a contract with Motown records.
1969: His band, The Jackson 5, has their first hit single "Want You Back." The debut single sells over two million copies.
Aug. 4, 1972: Michael Jackson releases his second album ben.
Apr. 13, 1973: Michael Jackson releases his third album Music & Me.
Jan. 16, 1975: Michael Jackson releases his fourth album Forever, Michael.
1976: The Jackson 5 changes their name to The Jacksons and get their own TV show.
1978: Has movie debut as a scarecrow in The Wiz, an all-black remake of The Wizard of Oz. During filming, rumor has it he would leave the set without removing his makeup.
Aug. 25, 1979: His album Off the Wall, produced by Quincy Jones, launches him to superstar standings. Sells over nineteen million copies worldwide.
1980: Michael wins a Grammy for Best Vocal Performance with "Don't Stop 'Till You Get Enough."
Dec. 1, 1982: Releases the Thriller album, which sells over fifty million copies worldwide and solidifies him as the 80's king of pop.
May 16, 1983: Performs "Billy Jean" at the Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever Special and for the first time he does the moonwalk, later to become

    Michael Jackson was born in Gary, Indiana on 1958, and it wasn’t short after that that he would hop onto the fast track to a life chock-full of success, happiness, turbulence, and controversy. At the extremely early age of five, Michael became the lead singer of the legendary Jackson 5, a group consisting entirely of his family members. With being as young as he was, Michael’s vocal work was amazing and he was able to showcase emotions very well. The Jackson 5 was eventually signed under Motown and the Motown music style can be seen as an influence in some of Michael’s later songs.
