MGT330 Week 1 Dis 1
The look of both websites have really has ne thinking packing it up and heading away from the cold. Warm and sunny has always been a great appeal for someone that hates the cold. This discussion will provide a better understand on how to organize, staff, and plan. As from the textbook, “the five management functions include planning, organizing, staffing, leading, and controlling human and other resources to achieve organizational goals. All organizations, regardless of their performance levels or profit motives, have a management structure and management staff. Although the organization exists for a particular purpose, such as producing a product or service, the responsibility for mission achievement requires a central figure, and in some cases figures, to coordinate these five primary activities.” (Baack, Minnick, & Reilly, 2014) Both sites are organized in a way that makes them appealing for someone looking for the best deals. Having access to Facebook©, Twitter©, and other social outlets give the customer a way to get the opinions from other customers. Being that both companies: Ron Jon Surf Shop (www.ronjonsurfshop.com) and Hilo Hattie (www.hilohattie.com/aloha/) are located in Hawaii; both shops promote beachwear, surfboards, and other beach necessities. Ron Jon is better known and has multiple shops were as Hilo Hattie has only one. Both companies make use of their websites to also promote careers with their company. Both companies have options on their websites to apply for jobs. Both sites also list the jobs currently available at any given store. Both sites give information about their structural leadership. This was easily found on Hilo Hattie’s site, with lists of key people that lead the company, as well as their contact information. Ron Jon provided a very nice example of a standard operating procedure (SOP) on their site that dealt with the companies shipping and logistics protocol. (Baack, Minnick, & Reilly, 2014)

Is another form of structural configuration better suited to multiproduct, multiservice companies? I do not believe so. As stated on our textbook, “Organizations exist for a purpose.” Further, their design considerations “seek to create organizations that are both efficient and effective” (Baack, Minnick, & Reilly, 2014)With multiproduct, multiservice companies there are many more moving parts, meaning more room for error. All the moving parts must work together, as parts of an engine. A design flaw in one division could affect other divisions, and eventually the entire company. Organizational design must be carefully thought out and planned before executed. Even then, things should be carefully monitored to work out any kinks.…

Every successful organization uses the five management functions; but not many can compare with the United States Armed Forces. I am currently serving in the U.S. Army and this organization has effectively applied the five management functions, because its existence depends on those five functions. They Army is constantly engaging in the five management functions; their operations are well led, organized, carefully planned, staffed, and constantly evaluated. I do not believe there is any organization other than the military where you would see these five functions linking so well coordinated.…

To communicate the information effectively from the Vice President of Communications to the team, an appropriate channel would be a face-to-face conversation. The client is new to the company and in a meeting the team will be able to discuss the parameters, deadlines, and the client. The meeting ensures the team is aware of the client’s criteria. “Face to face conversation scores the highest in channel richness because it transmits the most information” (Robbins & Judge, 2011). The appropriate channel to communicate back to the vice president can be an electronic email. The e-mail can use bullet points to sum up the team meeting, direction and goals. The vice president will be able to send check in emails at different points during the follow-up on the strategy. “E-mail messages can be quickly written, edited and stored” (Robbins & Judge, 2011). Due to a one week timeline, time spent arranging a face to face meeting would take precious time out of the short deadline.…
