MGMT 1000 Essay Plan 2
Moral dilemmas are often met as one tries to take decisions in critical situations. The confusion arises as the manager has to balance the equilibrium among all stakeholders and simultaneously keeping the financial state of the company healthy. Such a critical case is that of the Ebola disease in Africa. With more than 2100 infections and 1100 deaths, this phenomenon has now turned into the most archived Ebola episode. (Rid and Emanuel 2014). The Australian Pharmaceutical Corporation has developed a vaccine to cure the disease but Australian Laws demand a trial of 10 years before its use. In order to decide whether to send the vaccine or not, the three ethical decision making model will be applied. The main model that will be used is the Utilitarian model.
As indicated, the justice model dictates that any profit obtained should be impartially distributed among all partners (George, Jones, and Waddell, 2013, 133; Walker 2013). Therefore, this model suggests to take the income in consideration and ignores the other moral implications.

Moreover, the utilitarian model is the philosophical methodology which says that the ethical demonstration must give the best outcome for the biggest number of stakeholder (Gilbert 2012). In this particular case, the largest portion of the cake goes to the victims of Ebola. As a matter of fact, a good managerial decision would be to cure the disease by sending off the vaccine. This would also bring a good income to the company. However, the controversy of sending the vaccine without trial is still there, but the utilitarian model suggests to help the maximum of people with the minimum of resource. Therefore, this model seems to clarify the doubt and act in a specific way to

Bill Gates strategy is that of a utilitarian create, maximize and weigh the positive choices that will affect large numbers of populations. The standards that go into the moral decision making vary. Due to the scale of the operation the criterion used by him to weigh the cost and benefits that deal with such a vast amount of human lives would fall under act utilitarian. For example, Bill Gates states, “I’ll start with polio. Cases are down more than 99 percent since 1988. Earlier this year, we celebrated a fantastic achievement: India was declared polio-free.”(Bill Gates, 2014, para. 4) The decision to continue vaccination usage depends heavily on the data showing success in the large scale benefits vs adverse reactions. Example, anti-vaccination groups claim, “Gates is at fault for 47,500 paralysis cases after polio vaccine in India. However, the CDC has reported that there have been no cases of polio in India since 2011.” (“Bill Gates vaccinations,”…
