The purpose of this study is to assess the benefits that microfinance brings to the residents of Marikina City. Especially the three cooperatives we are focusing on.

The purpose of this chapter are to describe research design, provide the population we need to consider, the sampling techniques to be implemented and explain the research instrument and statistical treatment.

Research Design

This study utilized descriptive research design, because this study wants to assess what benefits that microfinance can bring to the residents of Marikina. Descriptive Research also known as statistical research, describes data and characteristics about Microfinance. Descriptive research answers the questions of who, what, where, when and how. With this research, we will be able to know if Microfinance gives favourable effect to the socio- economic status of Marikina. Often the best approach, prior to writing the descriptive research, is to employed survey questionnaire. Through this we will be gathering information regarding the programs that are currently offered by the cooperatives in Marikina for their members and information regarding how microfinance helps the residents of Marikina in their life.

Respondents

The respondents of this study includes the three cooperatives from Marikina, namely Star Angel Multi-Purpose Cooperative, CARD Mutual Benefit Association Inc., Marikina City Vendors Development Cooperative and the ten members registered under each cooperative.

Research Instrument

The researchers formulated two different survey questionnaires as a research instrument one set is for the three cooperatives in Marikina and the other set is for the ten members in each of those cooperatives. We will distribute the questionnaire to the ten chosen members from each cooperatives.
