Metamorphosis
This past week I went to a university wide event called Metamorphosis. At this event there was a good crowd of 300 people and most of them were first students. It was held at the concert hall here on the SU campus. Metamorphosis is a play that talks and depicts sexual assaults in relations to alcohol where there were scenes showing the exploitation of a drunken girl, consents gray areas, and that it is not always the girl who is sexually assault, but guys too are affected. All the scenes that I watched were rather exaggerated, but for the purpose of educating the masses, I’m hopeful that individuals watching this will make the right decisions either with proper drinking etiquette and recognizing what is right and what is wrong with sexual assault.
The first scene of the guy leaving a drunken friend behind with an unknown person didn’t really surprise me or

Some of these new actions are to actually talk about it and not avoid just because it’s uncomfortable and to develop a system in order to withdraw from future disastrous moves. As a result, from this superb performance I will most certainly attend and talk about future events on campus. As mentioned with my reactions and my solutions to some of the scenes, this play/act has strengthened my educational experience by looking at others perspectives, expanding my knowledge of topics that I would have never ever thought about, and by thinking more deeper of topics that seem common knowledge at first like for example sexual assault. Metamorphosis was a great play/act that depicts sexual assault in the best of details, where for me resulted in changing my way of thinking either through gaining experience/ knowledge and to think beyond the surface. I’m glad I went to this play/act and I wholeheartedly endorse seeing it again and to attend future SU

An individual cannot prevail positively or productively with all fundamental needs met without the dynamic of society. Society engenders restrictions on man. Our society has created many stereotypes which has blinded many individuals, resulting in leaving one confined to the realms of the world, crippling humanity. In the fictional novel, The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka, a salesman named Gregor Samsa was left in his own bubble to suffer alone, simply because he didn't measure up to the prevailing social standings that were upheld in this society. Kafka demonstrates the theme of alienation, from a unique perspective through the utilization of tone and imagery.…

On November 20th I went to the Black Box theatre to see the play Seminar. It was a small production, and there were only five actors. Going into the play, I had no idea what to expect. I had heard the play was a bit raunchy, with explicit dialogue and provocative scenes. The play started out with four actors portraying college graduate writers. I loved how realistic the setting was; it really looked like somebody’s real apartment. The actors did very well portraying emotion, and every thing they did and said I could relate to. At one point, a girl was eating real ice cream and complaining on the couch to her friend. I thought it was funny how every girl could relate to that scene. I also liked that the actor had no problem devouring ice cream on top of memorizing her lines and acting at the same time. I would find it hard not to focus on anything other than the delicious taste of the ice cream.…

I did notice a sense of empowerment among the survivors, it seemed as though a huge weight was lifted off their shoulders as they told their accounts of sexual assault/abuse. I really feel as though everyone became more educated on what someone goes through who has to undergo any time assault or abuse. It is never safe to assume that one case/incident is the same. I learned that sexual assault/rape affects everyone and not just the individual that undergoes the violation committed against them within an incident. I was amazed by the advocates who were passionate and committed to alleviating the burden upon the survivors. Their knowledge of resources available to the student body about educating and awareness was very apparent within the presentation of the program. The major speaker of the night, in my opinion was every survivor that spoke about their assault/rape or their observance of what occurred within their life. Honestly, they broaden my perspective on the “image” of what a person who has faced assault or abuse. There is not one “type” of person who is targeted or anyone that is more prone to facing this unfair…

It can be an introductory lesson taught to those who are confused about consent, or those who need a deeper understanding and examples of what is right and wrong. In essence, Green’s (2014) target audience lies within the world of college attending young adults in this specific video. More in depth than age, her video message is not singling out one gender. She goes through the video without using gender specific pronouns such as, “he” or “she,” but uses gender-neutral pronouns such as “they.” The inclusivity of using gender-neutral pronouns and omitting gender specific pronouns is helpful in making the audience feel comfortable. Although gender-neutral pronouns are essential for including certain communities, they are helpful in sexual assault prevention programs to help break stereotypes. An article concerning colleges battling sexual assault states, “Traditionally, ‘we told men 'don't be rapists' and women 'don't get raped.' But the vast majority of men aren't rapists” (Howard, 2015). This relates to using gender-neutral pronouns due to the fact that it can create an environment free of attack for the audience. Both genders are more likely to listen and obtain information when they feel as though a situation applies to both…

Life @ College Part 2 presentation was one of the best sexual abuse talks I have had in years. I was so upset it was short. I went to a all girl high school in maryland for four years so I am very use to the domestic violence talks and events. All the talks and events that i attended in high school had one thing in common. They all made it seem like it is one gender’s responsibility not both. Most of them were about us girls taking self defense classes and being on full alert mode all the time. Then there were some events that made it seem like it was just the males responsibility to not assault the females. I did not appreciate that because it just put responsibility on gender and it is on both genders not just one. I really enjoyed that the speaker after the skit acknowledged this issue and introduced a new perspective on sexual abuse.…

The mere existence of the gigantic outsiders challenges the dominant size, strength, and importance that the humans take for granted. When the aliens discover the ship, the narrator provides a scaled description of what the humans look like to Micromegas:However, even as he derides human vanity, Voltaire maintains the dignity of all of creation, including man, so guilty of hubris. This is seen as Micromegas, rather than scoffing at the miniscule creatures he discovers, examines them with "pleasure" and "joy" (ch.…

I decided to write my response over the rape culture video, because rape is something that hits home for me. When I was 14 years old, my best friend from high school and I were hanging around some older guys that were a couple years older than us. We put ourselves in a situation where we were out numbered, and drinking was involved. We were both young, and until this point had not drank alcohol. An 18-year-old boy raped my best friend that night. She was very intoxicated and he had not drunk at all. She did not give consent, and was incoherent when I walked in on it happening. Even though this story sounds like a given, it was not that simple. After months of investigation, the case was ruled a “he said she said” type of situation, meaning…

Sexual assault is very common. For a bad act as this, it is surprising how frequently assault occurs. Sexual assault is the most pressing issue faced by a younger generation that is not being addressed adequately, and while plenty of research is being done, not so much action is being taken. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) “National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey (NISVS), nearly 1 in 5 women and 1 in 71 men in the United States have been raped at some time in their lives, and nearly 1 in 2 women and 1 in 5 men have experienced other forms of sexual violence victimization in their lifetime" (CDC). The problem of sexual assault is terrifying because rather than declining, it has become rampant. However, if people are taught about how horrific sexual assault is at a young and impressionable age, the high rates of sexual assault would decrease significantly. When the Association of American Universities conducted research on sexual assault in universities, the results were shocking. 11% of female…

In many cases, students only know the basics about sexual assault such as, how horrible it is, but if colleges and universities incorporate a class about why it is horrible, students can expand their knowledge. Additionally, if colleges and universities create a mandatory class of sexual assault, students on the campus would know how serious of a problem it is. Therefore, every student on campus will recognize how serious the consequences are and will be informed about sexual assault. All students will understand that any act of sexual assault is permitted on…

Sexual assault is becoming a major issue and needs to be taken more seriously. There is no doubt in my mind that sexual assault is unacceptable, and we need to do anything we can to stop it. There have been many videos and theater acting shown to students in order to raise awareness of the controversy, in attempt to decrease sexual assault on campus. The YouTube video “Stop Sexual Assault | Be an Empowered Bystander | Who Are You?” did a great job in conveying the message of sexual assault to college students. The video first started out with college students at a party drinking and getting drunk. Starting at that scene was what caught my attention because sexual assaults often times occur at parties when girls are not exactly all there or…

Sexual assault is a prominent issue on college campuses all over the country and it affects everyone that is involved. The government is putting a lot of pressure on college administrations to help prevent the chance that one of their students may be drugged and/or sexually assaulted. People are afraid that colleges and administrators are not doing their best to prevent sexual assault on students nor are they fully providing the support to the victims. As a girl in college, I know that sexual assault is a very high risk; I also want to help the administration with ideas to prevent the chances of that happening to myself and to my fellow classmates.…
