Metalografi Case Study
Metalografi is the discipline to learn all types of microstructures of metals and its alloys and the nonmetals. Nonmetals that are included are polymers, composites and ceramics. In metalografi, the range of structures that can be observed. From large to very small. We can use our eyes for observing the rust, cracks and holes. In addition we can also identify any atoms and dislocations by using electron microscopy and x-ray analysis with the right techniques and accurate. Grain size and shape, porosity, cracks, perpatahan and the process of the second phase can also be observed with the metalografi technique. So the metalografi technique is particularly useful for analysis tools. Metalografi technique can predict the physical and mechanical …show more content…
So it can be said that this is a method of heat treatment to strengthen the material, shape and improve the ability of the engine from the material. The process of heating and cooling is done on extremes of temperature to get desired results. It is very useful to the manufacturing process, but the heat treatment is not only useful for manufacturing processes but also to improve the quality, performance and characteristics of the product. It contains the process of heat treatment including heating by means of withholding the material at a given temperature so that the phase ferrit and transform into pearlite austenite phase. Heating process is done depends on carbon content contained on the material. If you want to convert the material into austenite phase as a whole until keinti then the time warming up must be added. The speed of the warming also must be controlled so as not to cause gradients between surface with core part which will degrade the quality of the product. Austenite phase is reached after further cooling or quenching is done quickly by using the media of water or oil so that martensite phase or cementit incentives that are hard. After the process is done, subsequent tempering process is done or the reheating temperature under austenisasi so that previous material very brittle, in particular on the process of tempering temperature will increase ketangguhannnya. The process of tempering is done on all carbon steel that has been dikeraska so that it can reduce the kegetasan and can be used on the application being used. In the process of heat treatment process, also known as the process whereby annealling do with warming temperatures and the cooling is done in a furnace so cooling occurs very slowly ketemperatur the room resulting in nature with a toughness and a tenacity that is very high with a

There are many different ways that these steels are processed primarily for the fabrication of bike frames, in the case of 853, the method used is air hardening, and this is simply when the metal is left to harden. After the cooling period, the steel will then go through a series of heat treatment methods to further increase the ‘Reynolds 853’ strength. The steel can now withstand large loads. The properties of…

Heat treating steels to increase their hardness strength has been a process that has been done for centuries. In addition to this, reasoning was found for why it is uncommon to see heat treatment in materials with low carbon content, such as low carbon steels (1018 steel) and brass. The results of this experiment coincide with what was expected, and no obvious errors in the experiment were found. One factor of this experiment that could be improved is the quality of the micrographs that were produced. To do this, the metallurgical preparation of the material would need to be done in a much more precise and consistent way. The instructions were clearly laid out, but the execution of the instructions varied too much between individual samples, and consequently produced lackluster images for analysis. In the future, some recommendations to improve the quality of the finished surfaces could be to keep fresh abrasive pads on the ECOMET polishing machines, taking extra care when preparing and handling the etching solutions, and observing the surface finish of the material directly after the etching process is…

Among the strategies that Nucor has employed to obtain and maintain a sustainable competitive advantage over many of its industry rivals, are the high amount of investments in technology and great savings in cost such as carefully selecting the geographical locations for a new plant were electricity is not expensive and also since the scrap metal is expensive they acquired a supplier of scrap metal and started a backward integration process. Throughout their extensive investment in technology in the effort of lowering cost and increasing employee’s performance, Nucor maintains significant cost advantage over their competitors. Besides incredible machinery and high-tech equipment, Nucor has a mini-mill with really advanced technology which uses electric arc furnaces to melt scrap steel and pours it into molds to obtain final products. This mill saves a lot of money since the labor and capital requirement to melt steel scrap and produce crude steel are far lower than those conventional integrated steel mills, were raw steel…

In the 20th century, new metals and alloys became available... aluminium, titanium, chromium, and many more. Metal has many advantages over stone, wood, or bone: This was made possible by electricity, which is needed in large amounts to extract some metals from their ores, or to purify and process them once extracted. • metal is harder, stronger, and flexible, not brittle. • metal can be cast, hammered or drawn into shapes not possible in stone, such as saw blades, swords and armour.…

The fuel is injected part-way up the shaft, producing maximum temperature at this point. The fresh feed fed in at the top is first dried then heated to 800°C, where de-carbonation begins, and proceeds progressively faster as the temperature rises. Below the burner, the hot lime transfers heat to, and are cooled by, the combustion air. A mechanical grate withdraws the lime at the bottom. A fan draws the gases through the kiln, and the level in the kiln is kept constant by adding feed through an airlock. The degree of burning can be adjusted by changing the rate of withdrawal of lime. Heat consumption as low as 4 MJ/kg is possible, but 4,5 to 5 MJ/kg is more typical. Due to temperature peak at the burners up to 1200c°in a shaft kiln conditions are ideal to produce medium and hard burned lime.…
