Lionel Messi has grown to be one of the greatest soccer players of all time; he has perfected his balance, composure, control, dribbling skills, passing, power, speed, and strength. These traits have made him what he is today. All the hard work and dedication he has but in made his dream come true. But how did he get there?
Lionel Andres Messi was born on June 24, 1987. Messi was born in Rosario, Argentina to his parents Jorge and Celia Messi. Messi had two older brothers, Matias and Rodrigo, and a sister, Maria Sol. Lionel’s father worked as the manager of a metal company full time, while his mother cleaned part time. At age five Messi joined Grandoli his father’s local youth soccer team. Although he was small for his age his talent his talent more than made up for it. Because of Messi’s talent in 1995 he joined the top club, The Newell Boys. Even at a young age Messi was compared to soccer star Maradona, who also played for The Newell Boys. The only problem was his size, and his parents often worried why there son wasn’t growing. At age 11 Messi and his parents learned that he had a hormone deficiency. Treatments would cost from five-hundred to a thousand dollars a month. This wasn’t an option for the family because of their income. Because of the expensive, a local pro team, River Plate lost interest in Lionel.
FC Barcelona heard of Messi’s talent and offered him a tryout. Lionel and his family traveled to Spain for the tryout. After Lionel scored five goals in a scrimmage, the director of the club wasn’t going to let him leave without a contract. FC Barcelona’s director, Carles Rexach, offered to pay for the best medical treatment and give him the best soccer training. His parents couldn’t turn down the offer so they moved to Spain were there son now played. By 2000 the therapy had boosted Lionel’s height to 5â€6.
